A loss to Cork’s heritage. Thankfully, Ronnie’s written legacy survives. He was such a gentleman to all of us working in Cork City Library, and such a modest and helpful guide on city tours.

My deepest sympathies to all of Ronnie's family. I knew Ronnie through archaeology and he was always first to come on site to see what new things we had discovered, and to talk about how the past stories of his beloved city were unfolding. He was always such a cheerful, smiling man, a real gentleman, and always happy to share his extensive knowledge. He will be greatly missed.

Sincere condolences to Ann, Ciara and Daniel.
There’s a hush and a lull in the soft summer breeze,
And a whisper has pass’d to the tall waving trees;
There’s a gloom on the river, a pause in the streams,
And a shade has pass’d over the sun’s golden beams:
From John Fitzgerald’s poem Strange Murmurs: words from one bard at a time when we have just lost another. For you indeed brought history to life for all of us Ronnie and generations to come will know who they are and where they have come from because you loved your native place.
Farewell old friend ... and until we meet again, may God keep you ever safe in the palm of His hand.
— Sandra and Antóin

To the Herlihy and Murray families. I was shocked and saddened to learn of Ronnie's unexpected death. Ronnie was a fountain of knowledge when it came to Cork history and I, and many others in the newspaper and radio business, have many reasons to be thankful for his tremendous assistance when information was sought down the years. I marveled too at his expertise in setting up public address and screens for lecturers at the South Parish Historical Society venue and being able to rectify any technology problem when it arose. Everybody was made just so welcome. Ronnie will be greatly missed by all, especially by his family. May he now rest in peace.
— Tim O'Brien, retired Examiner staff.
