Sincere condolences to the Johnston family on the passing of Rory. He was my Principal Officer for many years in Customs & Excise Waterford, a role in which he excelled and was inspirational. Following his retirement, I enjoyed bumping into him in the local shop in Tramore as he collected his newspaper and where he always took time to chat and enquire as to how my career was going. RIP Rory.

My abiding memory of Rory is of my youngest (daughter), who was then a little over a year old, taking him by the hand and leading him to the garden at Turlough & Eileen's home. He was happy to spend time with her, listen to her, and chat with her as she endeavoured to construct words. Rory was a gentleman and a gentle man.
