We will always remember Rory as a wonderful person, whose handling of his illness was really an example to us all. What a fantastic spirit and attitude. And of course, he was an excellent scientist and scholar, as well as being splendid company, while never, apparently, speaking ill of anyone. I can hear his voice now.
Love to Margaret and all the family.

I was really sad to hear this news. Rory was my supervisor, mentor and friend who helped me through a difficult time in my life, with lashing of support and encouragement and some chemistry thrown in for good measure. Unfortunately I won't be able to make the funeral as I live abroad.
Rory has influenced and enriched my life in ways he could not immagine. I had the pleasure of doing my PhD for Rory in UCD. A brilliant man and a wonderful human being.
I knew Rory almost 20 years ago. It has been a honour for me to spend 9 months in his lab and have the opportunity to work with him and learn from him. He will stay in my research, in my heart and in my life forever!
Good bye, Rory. We will miss you.
Rory was a much-respected and admired figure in the Chemistry Dept. of UCD. Apart from his undisputed mastery of his subject, he had an engaging personality and an intense enthusiasm for imparting knowledge. It was a singular privilege working with him. My sincere condolences to Margaret and family.

I am mourning for Rory's passing. I won't forget his brilliant and open mind and his ever respectful, warm and unassuming manners.

I feel extremely sorry about Rory’s passing. He was one of the brightest chemists of the XX century and, above all, an excellent person in all senses… I will not forget him... My most sincere condolences to all the family...!
We were so very sorry to learn from Tony Manning of Rory's passing. He will be greatly missed. He was a pleasure to meet and talk to during our times at UCD and in Dublin as examiner; a delightful colleague and excellent chemist. Our thoughts are with you.
