Knowing Rory since the early 1980s was an absolute privilege. Firstly, we were near neighbours in Pontoon and as a customer in Pontoon Bridge Hotel over the years, he regaled and brightened up the company of so many, whenever he arrived. As the Gearys family solicitor for 30+years he was a fierce advocate for us on so many occasions and he was there on the good and the bad days. In the last 15 years, I became his colleague and neighbour in Castlebar. I always had great admiration for Rory and we had many great chats. He really was a legend - in the Courtroom and with a fishing rod in his hand (having been a member of the Irish Fly Fishing Team on a number of occasions). Rory was a unique character and quite a brilliant solicitor. Having battled against him on many cases over the past decade, he was as formidable as they come and would always surprise you with an unexpected 'ace card' up his sleeve. He was a great man for the craic with a rapid quick wit and a story teller beyond compare. We will miss him terribly and our hearts go out to you Roddy, Niamh, Eliza, Barry, Patricia, Angela and his dear friend Pippa. So many great memories of Rory that will never fade. We send our deepest condolences to you all at this upsetting and sad time. To his dear friend Fintan Murphy and all the staff at Garavan O'Connor who were his extended family - we extend our sincere sympathies. Goodbye Rory dear friend - see you on the other side.

Sorry to hear of Rorys passing, he was an absolute down to earth Gent and a pleasure to be in his company whether in Court/Tolsters or on the Golf Course. He was a credit and very genuine in his dealings with Clients,Court Users, Court Staff, despite the poor press directed at the Bar Assoc and the system in general.
