I was very saddened today to hear of Rosemary’s passing. She was a most supportive & helpful colleague at MMUH between 1993-2002 in the task of setting up a new ID service.

So sorry to hear of the death of such a wonderful colleague so soon after the death of her husband David. Rosemary was a superb academic Microbiologist in Trinity who later transferred to the Clinical side of things in The Mater where she also excelled. It was a pleasure to be first taught by her& later to work alongside her

I wish to offer my condolences to Dr. Hone's children and grandchildren as well as to her surviving sibling and to all who grieve the loss of this wonderful woman. I knew Rosemary to be a kind and loving person. I can still call to mind with clarity and ease her bright voice and smiling face over the intervening decades since I left Ireland in 1989. My mum who lives nearby would periodically send me greetings when she bumped into her in the neighborhood. Looking back, I marvel at how well Rosemary balanced being a loving spouse to her husband David and mother to my friend, Stephen, and his brother and sister David and Juliet, all the while serving as the primary breadwinner and homemaker. And she did it with what seemed to me then to be such joy and ease. I am grateful to have known her and to have been touched by her kindness and wisdom. I pray that she may be granted eternal rest and that those of us who grieve may find comfort in the sure knowledge of her enduring love.

Rest in Peace Rosemary. I will remember your gentleness and sense of humour

Very Sadden to hear of the passing of Dr.Hone , an inspirational microbiologist and extremely kind mentor to me - I look back at those years in the Mater with joy - the laboratory was a wonderful place to work and learn . Rosemary was a very highly respected consultant microbiologist. I was a colleague of hers for many years at Connolly Hospital. She was a very decent person who had to put up with underfunding of her speciality for many years but she was angry at the establishment for the lack of support. I saluted her then and now as she was an effective Dean at RCPI Faculty of Pathology. My condolences to her family and friends. Rest in Peace Rosemary.

I’ve observed my fathers closest friends, each with wide shoulders to burden the creatively absent impractical mindset for the practical side of life, especially parenthood.

Each born on the coat tails of legacy of spent inheritance, each driven with a dedication to swim upstream like determined Salmon, each wedded not only to partners but equally wedded to their often rather trying creative drive, and very clear, none of it achieved without unsung hero’s, their wives.

Rosemary not only somehow put up with a group of creative rather unemployable individuals, balanced bringing up children and a creative somewhat moody but brilliantly talented artistic husband, also managed to become in her own right through her tireless work, become a formidable noted Doctor with incredible integrity and nouse.

As a daughter to my fathers closest friend, Peter Somerville-Large, I lived the weirdly awkward and pure loving yet expressionless love from my parental experience and I cannot think more highly, the unique and wonderful tribe of Mums that ensured and assured my childhood and all other, the Hones, Sweeney’s, Somerville-Large, Townshend’s, Shaw-Smitgs to name a few to be as happy as possible.

Rosemary, right up until even last month, showered me with warm words of encouragement, care and unmeasurable understanding of life with a creative father.

Rosemary, I will never forget your love, compassion and kindness.
