My brother drew my attention to this. Everyone who lived in Knocknacarra in the 1980s and 1990s knew Rose from the Cottage Shop. She was an anchor of the community. Much loved, the lash of her tongue slightly feared, a force of nature. I remember hearing how she took charge when my father became unwell one day in the shop - with warmth and consideration, efficiency and no nonsense.

Peter, I am so sorry to hear that your mam has passed away. She was one of a kind, and I have great memories of her growing up in Knocknacarra. Rose had manners put on every child that came into the "Cottage Shop", me included! We always wrecked her head on the penny sweets!
