Deepest sympathy to Brigid, Sinead and Alan and all the extended Kelly family on the death of Ken. When I was still at school in Portlaoise, in the late 1950s, Ken would visit his Tierney grandparents a few doors away from my home during school holidays. We both sat the Leaving Cert in 1961 and we even travelled from Portlaoise together to sit a CIE exam in Dublin. We became and remained friends after I joined the Defence Forces in 1963. Our paths crossed at home and overseas many times before we both retired. Ken was always a professional, kind and caring officer and a true gentleman. May he now Rest in Peace.
