Heartfelt condolences to Sam, Hsiu Wen and your family on the loss of Samuel. I have always remembered his smile, sense of humour and kindness from so many years ago, along with those of his beloved Brighíd. So bonded together. So well-loved and missed.
Were so sorry to hear about the new what a lovely man missed on great Charles street
Sincere sympathy Sam to you and your family. Your dad was such a lovely man and he and your Mum were such a lovely couple. I hope happy memories will help.
We are deeply saddened to hear of Sam's passing. He was widely read, was a real film buff and had a dry yet infectious sense of humour. He went everywhere with his wife Brighid, a fine professional cellist and a member of the New Irish Chamber Orchestra. His love and knowledge of classical music and performance were both profound and perceptive. When the Orchestra toured Russia in 1979 and China in 1980 he travelled with the group as Assistant Manager, something which gave him great joy and satisfaction. We shall miss him very much from his accustomed place in the IFI.
Our sincere sympathy to his son Sam and all his family.

To add, Sam always had something to say regarding the crowds of young people we have had going into school shows at IFI - he would come in around lunchtime as they were exiting, be curious about what they'd seen and what they'd thought, but always step out of the way to let them exit. Nothing seemed to ruffle him, whenever the building reopened after refurb he was back, with his pals, chatting, laughing, and being present. RIP.
Sincere condolences from my mother Becky Sam’s first cousin may he rest in peace

So very sad to hear about Sam's passing. Had some lovely conversations with him in the IFI. He was a lovely man and the world will miss his presence.
So very sorry to hear about Sam's passing. We had many great conversations about movies and lovely glasses of wine. We also shared a great love of classical music which was another topic of great conversation. He also had a quiet sense of humour and some of his sayings still make me laugh. May he rest in peace.
We never know who will meet up in this life. I met Samuel when I started work in the Irish Film Institute (restaurant), he was there every day and always with a big smile. I think instantly we became good friends. He was a gentleman and lovely person so was easy to be his friend.
When I left Ireland, we kept our friendship. With the pandemic, we used to call each other every day. I am grateful for had Sam in my life.
I just want to say thank you to my dear friend Sam. Thank you for always encouraging me, thank you for making me laugh, thank you for your support and thank you for all conversations. I will always remember it. He will be deeply missed.

I used to see Sam and his friends chatting, almost every day it seemed, while I went about my work. I knew a cinephile when I saw one. I'd say to myself, years from now, that'll we be me, sitting talking movies, drinking wine. I should be so lucky.
We’re very sorry to hear of Samuels passing.

So very sorry that Samuel has passed on. May he rest in peace.
We met Samuel as a result of a happy accident in the Irish Film Institute many years ago. He was a kind, gentle and beautiful man. We kept in touch and met him several times a year after that. Most recently in July in the sunshine outside Dublin Castle where he was having lunch. We are very sad to hear that he has passed away. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Samuel was a true gentleman. We will miss him.
Very sad to hear of Sam’s death.deepest condolences. May Sam rest in peace.
A few years ago I got introduced to a tall, quiet courteous man in the Irish Film Institute- Sam McCarthy. He was there almost every day perhaps drinking an espresso or having a glass of wine or catching the latest releases of films from around the globe. We met several times a week. During the pandemic we phoned each other everyday for a year or so. I would google old films and the casts of old westerns he was invariably watching on TV. His encyclopaedic knowledge of old and classic films was remarkable. It was lovely to have his company over the last few years and he will be hugely missed by all his friends at the IFI and by myself. It was so hard for Sam to see the IFI closed down during the Pandemic.
