Is cuimhin liom ag scríobh airtegail as Gaeilge do Socialist Voice mar déagóir agus mhol Séamas m’iarrachtaí go hard na spéire. B’é díogras Shéamais ba chúis le borradh Socialist Voice a bhfuil mar fhoilseachán polaitiúil na heite chlé is fearr sa tír anois. Caitear leis an bPáirtí mar fhórsa iontaofa anois mar gheall ar ardéirim chomrádaithe ar nós Séamais. Níor chualathas é ag tabhairt óráidí ar ardáin ag deireadh léirsithe, ach bhí sé i gcónaí i láthair agus fiafraíodh a chomhairle go minic sa Pháirtí Cumannach. Ba chomrádaí sár-dúthrachtach é Séamas agus is annamh gur féidir le páirtí polaitiúil beag brath ar ghníomhaí cumasach dá leithid a rinne obair leanúnach go deonach, gan aitheantas a lorg. Is cúis aiféala dom í nár éirigh liom labhairt leis faoina saothar mar eagarthóir, mar údar, mar fhoilsitheoir agus mar chlódóir.

Mheas comrádaí amháin gur laoch neamhaitheanta an Pháirtí é Séamas. Ní fhéadfaí feabhas a chur ar an gcur síos sin. Gaeilgeoir den chéad scoth freisin, ar ndóigh. Aireoimid uainn go mór é. Is boichte go mór sinn dá uireasa.

Séamas was a gentleman and a very good political múinteoir to me for the last 15 years. I would be texting him most weeks asking him for advice on any subject relating to Marxism or politics generally. He was always straight with his answers and didn’t hold back, if he thought I was
“off track”, to put me right. I was lucky enough to call out to his home twice and his wife Deirdre and he made me feel very welcome and were both good company. I will miss him dearly as there are few of his like still around.
