Seamus Fay (Lilter)

Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Séamus on his death. Séamus was a wonderful lilter and kept that tradition alive for future generations. He was always so pleasant, encouraging and very generous with sharing his talents. My sister, Caoimhe and I have very fond memories of him. May he rest in peace. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís.

So sorry to hear of the death of Séamus, one of the greats of all time of Irish traditional music. I think the best music and dancing I ever heard and saw was the time he lilted for Brian Gaffney in Brian's house years ago, Séamus lilting and Brian dancing on his own hearth stone. And I was the entire audience.

So sorry to hear of the death of Seamus Fay. Through Martin Donohue I got to meet him and hear his beautiful treatment of the Irish Music.
His lilting was something to hear as he brought a lift and energy to the tunes unmatched by any insrtument. He was rhe Ard Ri of lilting and will be sadly missed.

Condolences to the Fay Family on the loss of Seamus ,a fantastic lilter and singer and most importantly a gentle man and beautiful presence.I have known Seamus my whole life as he was a friend of my fathers from when he served his time in Mageess shop at the end of the Barrack Hill.

It was a treat for us was to get out in the car for delivering the messages and chatting to Seamus . I was lucky enough to be the smallest and i was brought with Seamus, My father and Jimmy Mc Donnell from the Council on the Annual trip to Croke Park where i was lifted across the stilles and we witnessed Tony mc Teague wining all irelands and the great Dublin/Kerry rivalry of the 70s. The games were analysed with flasks of tea and chicken sandwiches off the north circular and the whole way home.The shop delivery included drop to the lady who lived at Cullis Graveyard which was very spooky for kids.

Seamus would drive my father to Ceili in Glan with his mother after the shop closed which involved leaving at 10pm at night and returning between 4am and 5am.

In later years i had the pleasure of attending the All ireland fleadh in Cavan town inspired by Seamus , Martin Donohoe & others.

In late yeas he ceilied in Glangevlin and lilted and sang a few tunes , i visited him out in Drumconnick with my son amanuel and he wanted to say goodbye to Seamus.

Seamus has been a fantastic friend to my family and me and we have all been blessed and lucky to know him, a wonderful Man. Suaimhneas Siorai Air.
