It seems ironic, I have just started reading Jims book, Mercury and Me, while dealing with some health issues of my own, in some odd way i find I have found strength
in what I've read and learned in the past week, since reading of Jims passing. The way both he and Freddie endured, and met their mortality with strength, and courage. although their final resting places may be a distance apart, if there is a heaven I'm sure they are carrying on like old chums re-united after many years.
I hope its like that....

I only read your book recently and was so moved by it. I would have liked to have sent you a big bunch of flowers along with my best wishes, but alas I was too late.

I should feel incredibly sad right now, and it's confusing me because I'm not as sad as I thought I would be - but I think i'm starting to come around to understanding why that is.

Because although you may have fled this mortal coil, you have left me with so many wonderful, fantastic, great, amazing memories, that are steeped in so much laughter and fun, that they somehow far outweigh the grief I should be feeling. I know it's there, but it's like you've covered me with a warm blanket to hold on to, and somehow, it just all seems alright - just as I know you would want things to be.

I am truly thankful and blessed to have been a part of your life for the best part of 20 years, and whilst they may be huge shoes to fill, I'm not sure I ever want them filled. Because I truly believe that someone only ever dies when you forget them, and I know I'll never forget you.

Proud, privileged, thankful, blessed - it was just a pleasure being fortunate enough to share your humour, your generous and caring spirit, and so very many wonderful and happy times that stretch back years that now just flood back as memories that make me smile broadly. (Making Hot Shots at Rutland, nights out in London, Dublin, Carlow, talking until the small hours and setting the world to rights, and the very last time I saw you and what you said to me. THAT I'll never forget...thank you).

So you see, I can't stay sad for long as it's in the memories you've gifted me that I'm now taking great comfort.

Godspeed fella, you were a true gentleman, and the very best friend anyone could ever have wished for.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to your amazing family and your wonderful sisters, I hope they can also take comfort in knowing just how many people and lives you touched from all four corners of this crazy globe of ours.
