My sincere sympathy to Angela, Barry, Cliodhna and the extended family on the sad passing of Seamus. I have fond memories of working with Seamus in C&C many years ago. Seamus introduced me to Golf at the Curragh Golf Club in the 70’s, and over the years we played many golf courses in Ireland, Scotland & France. My Fondest memory was in 1996 when we attended the Masters Golf tournament in Augusta Georgia USA.
May Seamus Rest In Peace.

Just heard the sad news of the death of Seamus, May he rest in peace. Sincerest sympathies to Angela and all his family and friends. He introduced me to the joys of Cheltenham in the 90's with the C+C entourage and he was the perfect host. Never forget the fun of being there for Dawn Run and Istrabaq, Fluerie wine at the evening meal and a sing song that went on for ever. He wore his vast sporting reputation lightly and was always the helpful, witty, gentleman. Ar Dheis De go Raibh a anam.
Sincere condolences, dearest Angela and family- I’ve just heard the sad news,I’m so sorry to have missed the funeral. May Seamus rest in peace.

My heartfelt sympathy to all the Leydon family, and extended families, at this November time of deep loss and sadness.
I'm thinking especially of Seamus's beloved sister, Mary - we often fondly reminisced about Seamus, and his legendary sporting prowess, together with his three-in-a-row peers.
Seamus Leydon was an indelible icon of my early teenage years in the 1960s - and of my brother (another Seamus) too!
Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam uasail Seamus.

I met you in Chelthenham in march 2011.. sitting on the back wall overlooking parade ring.. introduced yourself as Seamus.. another five minutes it transpired he was the legend I watched on our first black & white tv winning the 3 in a row as an 11 year old Leitrim gosson.. I was star struck to meet you.. One hour later our horse Quevega won the 3 in row .. as we’re leading her back into the winner’s enclosure.. I spot a bespectacled legend with beautiful brown hat raising his two arms with tightly clenched fists .. yelling c’mon Leitrim.. it was a savage moment for two Connacht men who met at the track many times since.. God Rest you Seamus.. c’mon Galway..Sean

Another one of the greats has passed. RIP Seamus . Sincere condolences to your wife Angela and family. Seamus was a great player in a great team. As a 10 year old I was in awe of them. They framed my interest in Gaelic football. So lucky to have seen Seamus and that great team. Rest in Peace. Legend.
Growing up in the sixties that Galway team brought real excitement to football and Seamus was at the centre of it.One of the best forwards of all time he invented the running game long before the present day. I got to know him through his work with Naas Credit Union from mid 2000 and what an unassuming gentleman he was with such a dry wit! Rest in peace Seamus.
Deepest sympathies to the family of Seamus and to his sister Mary and brother John.
Seamus was a real gentleman and a star on the Galway team of the sixties. He almost equalled Mattie McDonagh - the only Connaught man with four all-Ireland medals - when they narrowly lost to Offaly in 1971.
His passing brings back great memories of holidays in Dunmore when we were kids, with visits to the Green cinema, Duffy's circus, and ice creams on sale in Leydon's shop on the square. Dunmore seemed so much more exciting than Moylough, though that may be down to the great fun we had with Michael, John and Mary too.
May he rest in peace.

Deepest sympathy to you all on the sad death of Seamus. May he rest in Peace. He was born and reared next door in Dunmore and I have some lovely memories of him as a young lad. God give you strength and consolation at this sad time.
We extend our sincere sympathy on your sad loss. May his Soul Rest in Peace.
Our heartfelt sympathy to the family & friends of Seamus. The best memory that sticks in my head of Seamus is 66 final v meath when we went from loughrea station on the train to croker Seamus tapping the ball on his toe before sidestepping his marker to send over another magnificent point for Galway. May gods angels steer your soul 🙏 to a happy place in heaven 🙏 amen
Séamus Leydon stands out as a leading beacon on a team of shining stars from the unforgettable Galway 3-in-row team of the 1960’s when they brought glory and honour not only to Galway but to all of Connacht at a time when it was badly needed. Listening to Micheál Ó Hehir on the radio describing the fleet footed Séamus Leydon as he cut through opposing defences with lightening speed is something that can never be forgotten by anyone who had the good fortune to hear it such as the 2 winning points he scored against Kerry in the 1963 All Ireland Semi-Final or the goal he scored in the last minute of the 1965 National League Home Final against the same opposition which took Galway to New York. All of Connacht have managed only 2 Sam Maguires since. Sincere sympathy to the Leydon family. May he Rest In Peace.
We were deeply saddened to hear that Seamus had died . I remember Seamus as a young lad in Dunmore ,playing cowboys in the Square, and as an inspirational team mate of Sean's with the McHales in the 60's . We recall with fondness our last meeting and chat with Seamus at the 50th anniversary of the ST. Joseph /Dunmore first All Ireland club final .Leaba i measc na nAingeal ,Seamus .
We spent a lovely few hours in the company of Seamus and PJ Smyth, while researching our book All-Star Gazing.

Our deepest sympathy to Angela and all the Leydon family on the very sad passing of a wonderful person. Seamus or Gussie as he was more often known to his teammates was a great character that was always involved in mischievous goings on, especially on our many away trips. Great memories of our tour to San Francisco in 1972 and our many trips to Wembley. Rest in peace "Gussie"..you ran a wonderful race and left many happy memories.
Precious memories will remain forever of watching those three-in-a-row victories with my late dad in the crowded kitchen of Frank and Agnes Curley's home in Ironpool near Kilconly.
That Galway team left great and lasting impressions. It will never seem like a a lifetime ago.

Sad to read Mary, that your dear brother Seamus has passed away, you used to speak of him so proudly when we were working in the bank in London in the Sixties, all the chat was the GAA. & Galway in the mid- sixties were the stars. R.I.P. Seamus. Josephine. Adare/ Fermanagh.

Seamus brought a lot of joy to a lot of Galway people, most of whom never met him, in the 1960s. Those were the days - at the time we thought they'd never end

A child of the sixties, i travelled by steam train from Loughrea to Croker to see Seamus, who I never met, yet thought he was a giant in maroon and gave me some of the happiest days of my life. Three years in a row and we thought it would never end. Thanks for the memories Seamus and sincere sympathy to all your loved ones. We will all miss you.

' Team spirit coupled with a confidence based on ability ' a quote from Seamus Leydon from the Gaelic sports magazine from 1964 when asked what qualities a team needed to be successful. No need to write them down, etched in the memory forever, the same when they brought the Sam Maguire to corrandulla hall in 1963, we kids weren't allowed in so we crushed around the door to catch a glimpse of the giants as they passed and my hero Noel Tierney even spoke to us ' yer out late lads' as he passed in. We had the Beatles, Arkle and Pat Taffe, Tommie Wade and Dundrum, Cassius Clay and the Galway 3 in a row. What a time to be 10 years old ! Dreams to dream and songs to sing.
