Sincere condolences to the Loftus family on the passing of Seamus. I have fond memories of cycling home from St Gerald’s together.
I'm very sorry to hear of Seamus Loftus' illness and death. He was a good-humoured, kind teacher who had us for several subjects in Tubbercurry....he helped many students to settle into Secondary School. I think, and it's my experience, that there is nothing more important than kindness....we need to experience it and when we do, it can leave a lasting impression and become part of who we are. I'm grateful for the life and work of Mr. Loftus. I extend my sincere condolences to the Loftus/Howley Family and to his friends; may Seamus' good soul rest in peace.
Very fond memories of Seamus. Always looked forward to his classes. Very good-humoured gent who treated everyone equally and tolerated all our shenanigans with a smile. His classes were a relief from all the pressures of the world. Met him many times in later days and always exchaned a few pleasant words. RIP Lofty. God bless!
Mr. Loftus was a kind, caring and considerate teacher with a brilliant sense of humour, I always loved having him for class, meeting him in the corridor and having the few funny words, and having the few words any time I met him for years later outside of school, he got the best out of people and looked out for his students, I can only imagine how many lives he touched and how high he sits in the memory of so many people, he was one of the finest people you could hope to meet, and will be dearly missed. RIP.
So sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Loftus. I have many fond memories of him at the Marist. I recall being in second year in the prefab and Mr Loftus was our English teacher. We were learning Kavanagh’s Raglan Road and for a bit of encouragement he told us if we would sing it for him he would let us out to lunch a bit early! Sure enough we managed to band together and with a great smile he was true to his promise. Always kind and encouraging. May he forever rest in peace.
Mr Loftus was a brilliant teacher. I have very fond memories of a kind and patient maths teacher in the Marist Covent in Tubber. He was kind and patient and explained even the hardest mathematical equation in a way that was easy to understand . We also spent many a happy hour on the basketball court , one of the best going above and beyond for every student. My sincere condolences to the Loftus and Howley familes. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Seamus was my English teacher for a few years in the 80s, in what was The Marist Convent in Tubbercurry. He patiently tried to embed many a quote from The Merchant of Venice into our immature, disinterested brains!
He was a gentleman and well liked.

I’m sad to hear of Mr. Loftus’s passing. I will always remember him for his kindness and the way he truly saw his students. If I didn’t find my confidence in the classroom, I found it on the basketball court, where he encouraged me every step of the way. He had a way of making me feel valued.
There’s a quote from The Bucket List that makes me think of him today:
“It is difficult to understand the sum of a person's life. Some people will tell you it's measured by the ones left behind. Some believe it can be measured in faith. Some say by love. Other folks say life has no meaning at all. I believe that you measure yourself by the people who measured themselves by you.”
Sending my sympathies to Mr. Loftus’s family and friends. Rest in peace.

RIP Mr Loftus.
We were deeply saddened to hear of Seamus’s passing. He was a wonderful teacher and basketball coach—quiet, unassuming, and deeply connected to his students. David and I were privileged to be among those students during our time at Marist Convent. Seamus instilled in us a genuine love for maths and business, and we remain grateful for the knowledge he shared, the complex ideas he made simple, and the human warmth he brought to every lesson.
Our deepest sympathies go out to his family during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Seamus.
Teachers never age - they stay young in our memory forever. And our hearts. Mr LOFTUS was one of our “baby teachers” - always fun , always caring , always kind . He taught and we learned. I can even remember him dressing as Little Bo Peep in a school fancy dress, and shaving his beard to raise money for charity long before the world heard of MOVEMBER! He made us laugh. And he laughed . The basketball court was where his commitment & kindness shone - never cruel always encouraging. HE MADE A DIFFERENCE at a time when we had no idea how important that difference would be & how we should never take making a GOOD difference for granted - what greater achievement is there for a person? Thank you Mr LOFTUS for all your professional care & generosity. Ní bheidh do léithead arís ann.
