I had many long chats with him about local and family history and I am truly saddened at his passing. I am very sorry also that I was unable to attend his funeral due to illness.

They just don't make them like that anymore. We can only hope for the benefit of future generations that the good Lord finds the mould again. Every community needs someone like Seamus and anyone's life would be enhanced by meeting someone with his character and wit.

My deepest sympathy to all rhe McGowan family on the passiing of Seamus.He was a gentleman and I got to know him, through Michael and Leitrim GAA.With Michael he made a huge contribution to Leitrim GAA, always positive, always encoouraging.I really enjoyed meeting him at Leitrim and Melvin Gaels matches and missed him from matches in recent times.

As the tributes to him point out he left a great legacy to his beloved Melvin Gaels and Kinlough Community.

He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Saddened at the news of Seamus's passing.

Our deepest sympathy to the entire Mc Gowan family on the passing of Seamus. I have known Seamus for most of my life, to say he was a unique person would be a complete understatement. I’m not going to repeat what others have already correctly said about his contribution to Melvin Gaels and indeed the community of Kinlough and beyond, this is without a doubt the work of a modest legend. I can honestly say that Seamus was single handily the most influential and hands on person I have ever known in this community. He put a huge effort into the wellbeing of Kinlough and beyond. Seamus had three religions, his Christian faith, Gaelic football and Irish Traditional Music. After his family he devoted his life to all three. In my many years living abroad, no visit home was complete without paying a visit to Seamus McGowan and his beautiful wife Bridget. One had to make sure that you weren’t in a rush anywhere when you arrived at their home as you knew that the conversation would always get very interesting and the stories could last for hours. Until we meet again mo Chara, Slan abhaile. R.I.P. 🙏

Its hard to now believe , but he travelled the countryside selling "tickets" to raise funds for the original local football field in late 60s.

My condolences to all of Seamus' family. I first met Seamus 6 years ago when he was the first to attend my late husband Michael's wake in Spa Brae. He was a gentleman and always had a kind word anytime I would meet him. May he rest in peace in the arms of the Lord.
