On match days he would walk down to my house, and take a lift on the back of my Heinkel scooter.On one of our last coffee mornings he told this story as if it was only yesterday. RIP. Spud

Sincere sympathy to all the Murphy family on Seamus' passing. An absolute legend in Scoil Ui Chonaill GAA Club ,Seamus was involved with the club from the year it was founded, back in 1950 when playing on a successful hurling team at a very young age. He went on to be an excellent goalkeeper at both hurling and football and played at the highest level for many years winning a number of trophies along the way. After his long playing career ended Seamus performed many other tasks for the club.He was an excellent hurling coach and I have good memories of him giving lessons in the art of hurling to teams I was mentoring, He managed teams at all levels for years and subsequently was involved in managing the club bar. May he rest in peace

Deepest sympathies to all affected by Spud's passing. Was goalkeeper on many a team I played football on, even on my debut at 16yrs age for a more senior team. I remember that occasion very well - against Ni Fianna in Moibhi Pk; ex-taoiseach Bertie Aherne came on a substitute for Na Fianna to much craic and jeering by Scoil players, chief among whom was Spud. In that match, Spud made some amazing saves in goal for such a big man. May he RIP.

A great educator who could lift the down-beat and humble the proudhearted. He's left us all a rich legacy. Such a sad loss to Seamus' family- my sincere condolences to you all. So many many years in Scoil Ui Chonaill - always a smile and a chat whenever I was in the Club with Sean.- He will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all. Rest in peace Spud. Phyl

My sincere condolences to all the Murphy family on the sad passing of Séamus/Spud. A great friend and character about whom we can safely say: "Ní fheicfimid a leithéid arís ann" - we will never see his likes again! Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Spud. He was a mighty hurling goal keeper and when I was playing in the back line, he kept us on our toes and entertained us with his funny quips and remarks. On one memorable occasion we were playing Finbars in the Boggies and we narrowly lost. We gradually all arrived back in the dressing room sad and dejected to find our team mate and also Christian Brother in OCS, particularly thrown down in himself. Spud spotted him with his hands over his head feeling sorry for himself and decided to improve his mood with some inspirational words of a non Devine nature. It certainly changed the mood in the dressing room and all talk in Kennedys Pub afterwards was what Spud had said to the hurling cleric.
Spud adored his Jean, daughters and grandchildren. Heaven will be a funnier place with Seamus Murphy there.
