Sean CONWAY

I had the pleasure of teaching Sean in the de la salle . I remember one afternoon stopping a maths class so that they could listen to Sean playing a piano in the music room next door. He was so talented. Just heard the very sad news. May he rest in peace.

Deepest condolences to all the Conway family at this difficult time. I got to know Seán over the last number of years through the many great nights of music we enjoyed in Toale's bar. He was incredibly kind and an exceptionally talented musician. He will be greatly missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

My deepest sympathy to all Sean's family and many friends. Thinking of you all at this very difficult time. I was Sean's lecturer in Music at DkIT. My first memories are of a lovable rascal, beaming from ear to ear and he would often stay on after class chatting enthusiastically about various composers. After he finished college we often bumped into each other; he'd pick up the conversation where he left it no matter if it was 6 weeks or 6 months since. Funny, endearing, sweet, open, while also a deep thinker and intellectual, concerned about the world around him. He still remained the rascal, but matured into an incredible person, so articulate and thoughtful. He had music running through him, not only in practice, but also emotionally and intellectually. He spoke so lovingly of his family, of whom he was so proud, and likewise of where he came from.

Sean, I will miss our chats in recent years on the bus, of which I never really had a choice as you'd always sit down beside me and be "So ...?" I am so thankful for these chats and the opportunity to get to know you outside of lecturer-student mode. I'd always leave thinking differently about something, something new to listen to, in tears of laughter, or intensely moved by something you chose to share, of which in those moments I hope I was enough and you felt heard and connected. My heart is broken knowing you are no longer with us. Take care on your next journey Sean, I hope you've found peace x

I spent a lot of time with Seán over the years (pints, coffees, gigs, cinema trips, jamming sessions, walks, debates) and was in close contact with him over the last number of months. He was a dear friend. My heartfelt condolences to all in the Conway family. He constantly surprised me and caught me off guard with his hilarity, generosity and his ability to get into the most ludicrous of circumstances. He thought the best of everyone and thrived off human interaction. A beautiful soul. Rest easy friend.

My deepest love to all. I remember Sean playing me piano in a dingy little room at Arcadian Fields, talking for Ireland all the while. He was special, and all who met him felt his presence.

We were so devastated to hear of Sean’s passing. We lived with him in Orlando and also were members of the band Raglan Roots Coalition. I’ll always remember his humour, incredible talent and friendship. Sean never had a bad bone in his body. He will be missed by all who knew him. Sleep well my beautiful friend.

Sean’s presence, ideas and music have had a lasting impact on my life and will continue to. I feel very lucky that he was in my life. Thank you for the support & inspiration Sean.

I was so sorry to hear this very sad news. I can see Sean in front of me right now in the Year 1 Trad Performance Group as if it were yesterday. His enthusiasm and energy were infectious and he was so incredibly talented, yet wore it lightly. He radiated positivity. It was an absolute pleasure for me to be his supervisor in Year 4 for his Dissertation. I always looked forward to our weekly meetings/discussions. I think I learned more from him than he did from me. An enquiring and creative mind, and very generous with his time. Such a very great loss. Dear Mr. and Mrs. Conway
I am so sorry that you had to face such a terrible loss! I have lost my father a few months ago and still sometimes feel helpless the same as you do, I believe. And when I read in my Bible about resurrection of Lazarus and some others I wish Jesus was here and brought my father back to life again. I realise that it is impossible now but I have also read that many faithful men believed in future resurrection. For instance, Job asked: “If a man dies, can he live again?” Then he said to God: “You will call, and I will answer you. You will long for the work of your hands.” Yes, Job knew that our Heavenly Father is looking forward to the time when he will resurrect the dead (Job 14:13-15). God cannot lie. It means that your beloved Sean one beautiful day will be resurrected as Jesus promised: “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out” (John 5:28,29). I have read about this Bible-based hope on jw and it gave me strength not to despair at this sad time.

I've spent many a great time in Sean's company. From that first session in Kentstown ten years ago to a 14 hour marathon on St. Patrick's day in 2019. His energy and passion for music never dwindled. It was seconded only by his passion for his family. He looked up to you all. I looked forward to the quiet time after sessions. Sean would both dissect and reassemble complex thought's out loud. It could be accompanyment of a tune, methods of practising or the establishment of religion! I sat and listened while he explored ideas that I wouldn't have ever considered. But I hope he knew how much I enjoyed listening. He came into the house each night with a giddyness that sent the dog crazy. While we walked to the door, the dog danced with the anticipation of Sean's entry. Next morning, he sat and engaged with my children. Talking to them about anything and everything. I have a lovely video of him from last week playing a tune with Méabh. He will be missed in this house.
