Oh Sean it's heartbreaking to think you are gone. Just last summer you called me up said you were coming to visit us, boy was I looking forward to seeing you, but unfortunately with the restrictions in place It didn't happen.

"On one fine day" 5th Ave 59st while working on Central park south back in the early 90's this guy pulls up his horse & carriage behind me and introduces himself with a firm handshake. I'm Sean Fay from Puckain Co Tipperary, that day was the start of our long friendship. I got the history of Puckain that day and the history of my own county also, much more than i knew.

You did everything with so much passion. You had such a curious mind. You were always courteous, caring & helpful to others. A great Horseman, endless courage, A Classic tour guide...A writer, a poet, some craic, and you sure lit up the room when you entered !! But you were also a great friend .
And I feel so fortunate to be one of your large circle of friends. We enjoyed good times.
So looking back I can say,
"That was one fine day.." !!

A past pupil of St. Flannan's College, the indomitable spirit of the distinctive character that was Sean Fay transferred into the Ennis school with ease and impact. A great conversationalist and story teller, Sean had a visionary, inquiring mind. In New York, he was an informal ambassador of the places he loved so dearly.

An abiding memory of Sean is a family visit to the Big Apple, and the unique Sean Fay guided experience of Central Park (never a tour, always an experience!).

Sean, Polly and I watched the streamed funeral and it is with great sadness, we say goodbye to our friend Sean. We enjoyed meeting him over the years and one was always assured of a stimulating and provocative conversation in his company. If I am to take any meaning out of Sean's death, I am wondering what we as a society can do to provide greater understanding, compassion, support and love to one another but particularly to people who are enduring difficulties. That is a question I reckon that Sean himself would have a lot to say about. Let's take that sentiment forward. Together, we may be able to make a difference.
