I knew Sean in Zimbabwe during the 1980’s and Namibia in the 1990’s. I think he did a great job as a teacher educater. We had a difference of opinion about the Bishop Casey affair but despite this we got on well together. He was always friendly. My deep sympathy to Val and Gatley family.

We were very saddened to learn recently of Seán's passing. We convey our deepest sympathy to his immediate and extended families and all affected by his loss. We knew Seán from his Zimbabwe days. Quite apart from his excellence as a teacher on the Irish Government's education programme in Zimbabwe during the 80s/90s, we knew him for his marvelous sociability, his sparkling humour, his great empathy and willingness to listen, his unfailing kindness and wonderful decency as a person. We will miss Sean for his Distillery Road caravan and fishing exploits in Galway and for his hospitality and jellied eels by the River Lea ( in London) as well as lifts to Ireland in the VW Beetle.

Sean had a joy for life which he always shared around. Passionate about Irish culture and current affairs he thrived in global diversity. Sean believed that the more we shared and respected this diversity, the better the world would be.
