SEAN HENNESSY

Sean Og what a Dad you had! 30+yrs he & i laboured to persuade a hesitant irish episcopacy to introduce a full ministried Permanent Diaconate to Ireland. A hidebound truncated version was half introduced to Sean & his 3score "disciples who were all excluded . But Seanie never lost faith he continued to knock. What a friend he was & to meet him was to be cheered up! A theologian / an inveterate traveller & pilgrim/ a master conversationalist & a friend for the age's. I miss him already.

On behalf of the choirs and musicians at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity Within, Waterford, may I offer our most sincere condolences to the Hennessy family on the passing of your dear father Sean. A most gentle and kind man, he is fondly remembered by his many friends at the cathedral. May Sean rest in eternal peace.

Very sorry to hear of Sean’s passing. We studied Theology and Philosophy with Sean in St Patrick’s, Carlow College. We were straight out of high school and he already had a lifetime of wisdom. A good man. Spoke often of his wife, whom he missed deeply.
Years later I would see him at the Dominican Friary in Waterford when we often visited. Met him a little over a year ago when the Home of the Mother had taken over the Friary. Always busy, all business, in service. Great faith and always focused on that. A pleasure to have known him a little.

My prayers are with my dear old friend. We walked many the road over these past 26 years and shared a great deal of love, faith and joy. I have already offered Mass for him, and will do so regularly as we move on.

But the Lord will welcome him with open arms. They knew each other well.
