Sincere sympathy to Déirdre, Páraic, Darach, his brother James, and the extended Keane family, including Seán’s Longford and Clare relatives on the death of Seán. Ann and I have lost a life-long friend and his passing leaves a vast void. He is now at rest with his beloved Maire. Despite his exception musical gifts he was a humble and modest man. Seán was a noble ambassador of our tradition and carried this with dignity, nobility and remarkable musical taste. He leaves a remarkable legacy in Irish music worldwide. We were privileged to know him and Maire for many years and have wonderful memories to reflect on.

To Deirdre, Paraic, Darach, grandchildren and brother James,we are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of your lovely Sean. We offer you our sincere sympathy. Our friendship with Sean and Marie goes back a long way as I worked with Marie in the GPO. Marie had a great presence about her. She knew everybody in the GPO and had a word for all. The first time I saw Sean he was stepping off a bus on O’Connell St with a fiddle in one hand and Marie held by the other hand. I’m sure that is what will continue for them in Heaven. They were a great couple. May they rest in eternal peace.

I only ever saw the Chieftiens once at an O'Carolan festival in Nobber Co Meath many years ago but it was an fabulous even. Sean seemed to come across as an assuming member of the group and let the fiddle do the talking for him. May his gentle soul now rest in peace.

It has been my honour and pleasure to have worked with Sean over many years. He was one of life's true gentlemen and will be sadly missed by all that knew him and his music.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Rathcoole's own. My heartfelt condolences go out to Darach, Deirdre, and Padraig. Seán was a lovely man, married to a lovely woman, and had three wonderful children. A humble man, he lived in a humble house in Rathcoole, and never lived the outward life of a world renowned musician. May he rest in peace after a life lived well. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
