So sorry to hear the sad news. Please accept my sincere sympathy.
Sean was a very special person whom I first met when working as a young photographer in the Irish Press Group in the late 1950’s. This is what I wrote about him for my book “Off Screen – A Memoir” published in 2007. I was honoured that Sean attended the book launch.
There was a young dark-room assistant, Sean Larkin who later became a first-rate press photographer. Sean, known as “The Lark” always called me “Jimmy”. He never explained why. I suspect that when he first heard my name he perceived me to be a “gaelgoir” or to use his own expression, a “Tá sé”. This would not be unusual for an employee of the Irish Press group. Addressing me as “Jimmy” was Sean’s way of bringing such a person down to earth. He still calls me Jimmy. Sean went on to become one of the best-known photographers in the country. For years he travelled as the photographer throughout Ireland and abroad with the brilliant, beautiful and much-loved diarist, the late Patsy Dyke whose weekly column in the Sunday Press was one of that paper’s highlights. Sean Larkin is frequently seen with Princess Grace of Monaco in an historical film clip on RTE’s Reeling in the Years. He helps Her Serene Highness across a stone wall at the ancestral home which she had just bought in Mayo in 1976.
Sean was one of a kind. May he rest in peace.

On behalf of the Press Photographers Association of Ireland I'd like to convey our condolences to Peggy, their sons and daughters and and to Sean's extended family.
Sean was a founder member of our association in 1978 and sat on the the inaugural committee. In the ten year commemorative publication he was missing from the official photo, presumed playing snooker.
'The Lark' joined The Irish Press in 1956 while still a teenager. And while he will be remembered, by some, for his photographs of John F. Kennedy's 1962 visit to Ireland, and of the Pope in Rome, it was his photographs from around the country, used on the back page in the Down Your Way series, that he is best known.
He will be fondly remembered and missed. Rest in Peace, Lark.

Every great life ends but hopefully The Lark sings on. A gentleman, a character and such a unique sense of humour. When I began as a trainee with the Irish Press way back in 1968 it was great people like The Lark, Pat Cashman, Pat Keegan, Coleman Doyle and the late great Austin Finn who gave so much of their busy time to help and advise for which I am forever thankfull. A cuppa tea and a pint in Mulligans and Sean was as happy as a Lark. Sean, thanks for everything. Yogi.
Jenny and family, we are so sad for you all and send love and support through this difficult time. Love Suzie, Jay and the girls xxx
