Seán Licken

My deepest sympathy to Noreen, Aveen, Eoin, Cormac, and Katherine on the passing of Seán. I have very fond childhood memories of him from our days growing up in Dundrum. I remember my first walk to the Sugar Loaf with Seán, his beautiful garden, and how he took such pride in polishing shoes—nothing brought him more joy than a perfectly shined black shoe! May he rest in peace.

It was with great sadness that Chris, Bláthnaid and I heard of the death of Seán.
And it was also very disappointing for me that I was unable to attend the wake, funeral mass or burial.

Seán was a very special man in our lives. From the time we placed the care of our precious daughter Bláthnaid in Noreen and Seán's care in 1988, we never had a moment of concern or worry. We were blessed.

Seán collected Bláthnaid from the Naíonra and Scoil Treasa for many years to come. She was always entertained with stories and riddles as they drove home for a hearty lunch. Seán also introduced Bláthnaid to the treasures of The National Geographic and we still have them to this day. Seán's kindness and sense of humour were a joy to us all.

Noreen and Seán were like grandparents to our daughter and still are to this day. For me it as was always a home from home when I arrived in after a hard day at the coalface. Bread and butter pudding and tea and chat were regular happenings and Bláth and I would make our way home renewed and refreshed. Also, Noreen and Séan's care for Bláth during my long illness and hospitalisation in 1994/5 will never be forgotten.

We were pleased that Bláth saw it fit to fly from Helsinki to honour Seán's passing and to sing at his funeral as Katherine, Seán's daughter was the first to introduce her to music.

I was saddened to hear that it was time for Uncle Seán to leave us. My condolences to Noreen, Aveen, Cormac, Eoin and Katherine and the grandchildren.

Very sad to learn of your loss. Uncle Sean was a lovely man. I have great memories of hanging around the shop down the hill with him and Pop. I also enjoyed when he would come by our house for a cuppa on his way home after work.
He was so interesting and jovial, lovely to be in his company.
