To the Loftus family my most sincere sympathies. I had known Sean for the last 5 years through the Thursday walking group . Being 6 foot tall I was one of Sean’s regular companions as we strolled through the parks and along the Canal. We Always had our little stop so Sean could have his apple and smell the fresh air.
Always an interesting walk with Sean. We will miss him on our walks. Rest easy.

Goodbye Sean and rest in peace. The last time we chatted was in Bunratty many years ago during a chess tournament. We were the last to leave the bar one night and I really enjoyed your engaging personality and intelligent conversation. The Irish chess scene has also lost a legend. My sincere condolences to Sean's family.
A gentleman and expert chess player - a friend sadly missed. Unfortunately I can't attend the celebration of his life as I am abroad.

So sorry to hear of the passing of our Uncle Seàn. We have many great memories of his booming voice as we entered 176 or on his regular visits to Brian Road. A superb conversationalist (mainly held over a few pints of stout) Sean had an encyclopedic knowledge of all things sport who took such a keen interest in our careers both on and off the field. We all looked up to Seàn as a great role model who achieved so much in such a celebrated life.
We will be joining the celebration of Seans life online from Spain and raising a large pint to a great man.Rest in peace.

Uncle Sean,
We hold such treasured memories of your visits to Downham. Taking you over the Legion for a pint or two, Dad on one arm, you on the other!
Watching you skilfully clear a plate of food, finding every last morsel. Although sometimes you needed a little help … “Peas at 12 o-clock Uncle Sean!”
Sitting in the garden with your portable radio, listening to the cricket, often reading from a big brown book of braille.
Saying a date in history & you within seconds being able to tell us what day of the week it was … such an incredible brain.
“Would you like another pint of Guinness Uncle Sean?”
The reply always being, “I wouldn’t say no!”
Sweet dreams & we hope you have your chess board out up there!
All our love,
Claire, Jared, Daisy & William xxxx

I was very sorry to hear of Sean’s passing. I knew Sean through Chess for more than forty years. We played many a game against each other in the Leinster leagues and elsewhere. Sean had many and varied interests over the years, including drama when in his younger days. He could deliver a wonderful speech with his commanding voice and perfect diction. It’s hard to believe we won’t be hearing his voice again. RIP Sean.

Our sincere condolences to the Loftus family on the death of Sean. We have many happy memories of sean. At social occasions in the National League of the Blind,
Sean loved a sing-song, and was always willing to sing a party piece. We both worked for Bank of Ireland, and attended many union meetings together. He was formidable but fair during negotiations. Great company over the years. Will miss you, Sean. Rest in peace. Gerry and Brigid.

A lifelong friend,
I've known Sean since our schooldays in Drumcondra. After leaving school we remained friends and shared many a pint of Guinness and many long and interesting discussions, mainly about sport and chess. We travelled abroad several times to compete as part of an Irish team in chess olympiads, and also to play in individual events. Later, when I moved to Mullingar to live, we always looked forward to Sean's annual New Year visits, invariably listening to classical music and music from the 50's and 60's, and consuming several beverages. Sean will be sadly missed by all his friends, but hopefully, it will be a happy release for him.
Goodbye friend
