Sincerest Condolences to all of Prof. Tierney's family. He looked after my dad in Tallaght Hospital for a number of years and his support to him and our family was amazing. May he rest in peace
Some how I have only heard the heartbreaking news of the Professors passing today. With shock & utter devastation please accept my condolences to his family, colleagues & many friends all over the world. Rest In Peace my teacher.
We are so sorry to hear about Sean's passing RIP. I remember Sean with great fondness during our time together in the Mullingar Town Band. Trips around Ireland with the town band were great fun. As kids we had wonderful times. I remember Sean as a fun lad, great smile and a person who had time and patience for everyone. He went on to make a career out of that ability to accept and respect everyone. I remember when he first told us ( our little group) about his meeting with Mary Jane. Thats a while back. Im also remembering Phil ( Seans Dad)who tried to keep manners on us all. Tomas will remember these times also. Our little gatherings after band practice in the local chipper. Innocent and great times. May Sean rest in peace. A great talent and a great man.
Sincere condolences to Sean's family. A true gentleman. Hardworking, gracious and great humour. One of the nicest surgeons I ever worked with .
My sincere condolences to Seán’s family and friends. He was a wonderful doctor, teacher and leader and will be remembered with great fondness by his students and colleagues around the world.
Sincere condolences to Sean's wife, son and all his family and friends.
He was a true gent, one of the good guys and a pleasure to work with in those forming days of NOCA.
Sean was a steady supporter who gave willingly of encouragement and sensible advice to me personally.
We can only hope, those who have benefited from his training and guidance will carry on his sensible pragmatic approach to people centric medicine.
Prof Tierney was respected and loved as a teacher and surgeon throughout our time training in TUH as medical students. He always had time for us and his patients. We are grateful for everything. R. I. P.

Dear Mary Jane. I just heard today about the death of your dearly beloved husband Sean, R.I.P. I am truly saddened to learn of Sean's untimely passing. From our days together in the Land Registry, I know that Sean was the love of your life, your soul mate and the " wind beneath your wings" I want to say that my heart goes out to you and your son Daniel. As Helen Keller once said " what we once enjoyed and deeply loved, we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes part of us" . Heartfelt condolences to you & Daniel and the O'Farrelll & Tierney families. Rest in peace Sean in your eternal home.
My sincere sympathies to Mary-Jane,
Daniel and all of Sean’s family and friends.

Sean made an incredible contribution to our health service. He was a true gentleman, a brilliant surgeon and someone held in such high regard by all who knew him.

May he rest in peace.

In my thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.
Dear Mary Jane and Daniel, so sorry to learn of the passing of Seán. A person who always wore a smile.
Thinking of you both at this very sad time.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Sincere sympathies to Mary-Jane, Daniel, Tom and the rest of Sean’s family and many friends. It was a pleasure to have known him as we grew up. He was someone I and many of my generation in Mullingar looked up to…indeed still do. We all took a vicarious satisfaction in his many and varied professional achievements, however, it was always noted how lightly he bore his success and accomplishments. A learned man, who like his father Phil, had great wit and wisdom…and like his mother Eileen, made a lasting contribution to Irish healthcare. He will be misssed. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam uasal.
It is with profound shock and regret that we share our condolences with Mary-Jane, Daniel, Thomas and all Sean’s extended family and many friends and colleagues. We will cherish the fond memories we have of his journey in Mullingar from boy to man and the pride this engendered in his late and beloved parents, Phil and Eileen. May they all now be at peace together.
Dear Mary Jane and Daniel

I am saddened to hear of his death this evening, far too young.

I have fond memories of Seán’s down to earth, no nonsense approach to problem solving when I was an intern in Beaumont. I recall his smile as he discussed roses with as much interest as the biological complexities before him, inclusive of all junior company, interested and encouraging, exacting but patient. I have always been grateful for his input in my medical professional formation.

May he rest in peace.
