Condolences to the Purcell family on their recent bereavement.

Now that he has sadly passed, I can tell the story of one of my earliest memories of Seán.

About 40 years ago, Kildare county council implemented water charges.
Those who couldn't pay were cut off.

I met Seán in Avondale one night, and he was going around turning the water back on for those who couldn't afford to pay the charges.

When I asked him what he was doing, he explained everything, and that most of those he was helping were elderly people with a very low income.
As soon as I was old enough to vote, he always got my first preference. He was a true man of the people.

My deepest condolences to Seán's family. He was one of the good ones.

My sincere sympathy to the Purcell family on the passing of Sean. I worked with Sean in his capacity as a town councillor and in the many voluntary roles he undertook for the local community. I always found that Sean put the people of Leixlip at the forefront of all his actions. He was an honest , decent trustworthy advocate. Sean was also a great story teller and I enjoyed his many stories of his early travels to strange lands. He is a great loss, may he rest in peace.

Among other things I had the pleasure of volunteering with Sean on the Leixlip Credit Union board. I never doubted he had the interest of every member close to his heart.
You could trust him completely. You could rely on him to do the right thing. Community was everything for him. He loved Leixlip to its core.
May he rest in peace.

Sincere condolence to the Purcell family on the passing of Sean. He made a deep impression on all aspects of life in Leixlip through the various activities he participated in. His footballing and coaching activities brought joy and a love of sport to generations of Leixlip Youth. On Leixlip Town Commissioners he worked with fellow Commissioners to bring about improvement in the infrastructure in Leixlip . His cheerful and friendly personality helped the Commissioners to gel and present a united front to Kildare County County Council. He portrayed the best side of Leixlip on his trips to France and USA representing Leixlip Twinning. As a member of Leixlip Fire Service he helped keep fellow citizens safe. On his walks through the town he brought a smile to anyone lucky enough to meet him. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

He had a respectful, encouraging and calm way about him. He fought for peoples rights without ever needing to raise his voice. Wherever you met him, he would stop for a chat. He loved meeting people. Everybody knew Sean, and he was also an intriguing story teller. Those were the days my friend. It's the end of an era now. Goodnight & godbless Sean. 🫡

It is with sadness that I have heard of Seán's passing. My deepest sympathies to all of the Purcell Family and Friends.Coming from a Family who have always been active, involved and who have worked so hard for the people in Leixlip , it is truely our loss. We witnessed his days as footballer, manager and coach in those early years of excitement in Leixlip United which would cement his role as a model for all of us kids as we progressed in our football pursuits. The memories of Sean giving training with the novelty of training methods were memorable and indeed to the advantage of other codes of sport. His enthusiasm and energy was evident in his political career and his focus never wavered in seeking the best for Leixlip. His conversation was betimes sharp, witty, informed and questioning, but always working to animate action on behalf of the people of Leixlip.
A true local hero to many of us.

He was the ultimate communicator who was a great listener and speaker . He was a very skilled politician and in fact one of the very best i have ever met and also a very genuine person who was selfless and giving of his time, energy, commitment and talents for the greater good of community and fellow humans. He never looked for accolades or praise and hadn’t an ounce of ego but everyone who was lucky enough to cross his path felt better for doing so.
