Heartfelt sympathies to Áine and family - I only heard about Joe's passing today. He was a few years ahead of me in Roscrea, but I knew him as one of the few natives of Co. Louth there. A real gentleman.

My contact with Joe was through parent/ teacher meetings in Clonkeen and later at 9 mass on Sundays in the oratory at Holy Family as long as I was able to attend. I was very sorry to learn of Joe’s passing. He was a most kind colleague and spoke often of his love for his family. In retirement he continued to reach out to many less fortunate than himself.

We would often see Joe at Adoration in the Legionaries and meet and chat with him at retreat days. He was a real stalwart of the Catholic faith and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

When Joe arrived in Roscrea in 1958 he was immediately recognisable with his developed spirituality. His spiritual life reflected his unwavering dedication to God . He never missed an opportunity , at our school reunions , to witness, to encourage. Respect and blessings from those of us who walked with you .
