I have only now learned the sad news of Seóirse’s death and I offer my sincere condolences to Blánaid, Evelyn and the Bodley family at this difficult time.
Remembering Dr. Bodley's wry humour, his musical insights, and his total dedication in UCD music classes. Go dtuga Dia suaimhneas siorai do.
Do Sheóirse:
Is ceol tú féin,
is ceol tú féin,
is ceol tú féin i gcónaí!
(As Siansa 3 a ceolchasadh sa Cheoláras Náisiúnta, Meán Fómhair 1981)
Chan mé sa chór an oíche sin.
Tá tú leis an gcór neamhaí anois agus ní bheidh do leithéid ann arís.

I write to offer my deepest sympathies to Lorraine and all Seóirse’s family and to express my regret at not being present at the funeral ceremony on Saturday, November 25th.
I have known Seóirse since my student days and was privileged to work with him for many years in UCD where he was a loyal and supportive colleague. His musical legacy is an extremely valuable contribution to Ireland’s cultural heritage and it will ensure that Seóirse will be remembered and cherished by future generations.
May he rest in peace.

Please accept my sincere condolences Lorraine on the passing of Professor Bodley. Go ndéana Dia grásta ar a anam.
It was with deep sorrow that I learned of Saoirse's passing. I wish to extend my condolences to Lorraine and all the Bodley family. It was a privilege to have been his colleague and friend in UCD. His knowledge of the arts was breath-taking. He shared it willing and with the serenity that marked his personality. A great Artist and a true Gentleman. May he rest in peace.
Condolences to blánaid on the passing of your father. Rip
Our deepest sympathy to Blánaid and the Bodley family on the sad passing of Seóirse.

Blánaid, Evelyn agus Rónán,
Comhbhrón ó chroí ort as bás do Seoirse agus is trua liom do chás. Tá tú i mo smaointe. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

He was a wonderful composer and conductor. I had the privilege of being a music student of Seóirse's in UCD. He was instrumental in introducing me both to Traditional Irish music and to the music of the European Avant Garde. On a personal level, he always gave me great advice and encouragement which kept me going while pursuing the thorny path of musical composition. As a 'northside Dub,' I loved talking to him about Joyce's Ulysses and we had many a laugh discussing the old days and history of Drumcondra and Phibsborough. I have no doubt that his musical legacy will live on and resonate for a long time to come. Ceol na n-aingeal go gcloise sé anois. Le gach dea ghúi, Michéal.
'See everything through music -
those chords yet to resound
in you, swim like fish
in all the rivers of the world.
You love their playful surge,
their shadows flickering deep within you.'
From The Composer by Susan Connolly. Dedalus Press 1993.

Seoirse Bodley was both personally and musically the most notable Irish composer of his day. He moved fearlessly across a range of genres from traditional Irish music to the avantgarde and has left his legacy for the future as an incomparable Irish composer. His constant presence will be sadly missed.
May God rest him, and thank him for his musical additions to the Mass.
Seóirse introduced me to classical music recitals, as a young teenager, and, as we sat beside one another in Coláisde Mhuire, we shared a mutual dislike of Milton, the poet.
May I offer my sympathy to his whole family. He must have been easy to love

To all of Seoirse's family my sincere condolences on your loss. Seoirse was a lovely gentle man and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
