My sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Shane especially his children John and Charlotte. I was lucky to have met your Dad through The PTA in Dundalk Grammar School. Marie Damian Conor and Oran Brady
I offer John Charlotte and Shane’s extended family my very deepest condolences on his sad and untimely passing. Shane was a wonderful man and I thoroughly enjoyed all of my lively chats with him about the history, geography and geology of places that he had visited in Ireland and overseas as well. He was well loved and respected by all those who encountered and knew him. I pray for the spiritual and emotional well-being of his family and friends at this very difficult time for them all.

My deepest condolences to Shane's family and friends. I knew Shane in a professional capacity and held my last meeting with him only 4 days before he died. I am in total shock to learn that he has passed away so suddenly. He was so incredibly intelligent and equally humble and so easy to talk too. Rest In Peace Shane. The world is a lessor place now.
I am so very sorry to hear of Shane's passing. I only just heard. I have known Shane for over 10 years, on both a personal and professional level. He was such an intelligent, kind and gentle mannered person.
He will be sadly missed

My condolences to Shane's family and friends on your sad and untimely loss. I knew him from UCD. So many fond memories, in particular an unforgettable car trip to UCG rag week in 1979. Shane was our proud driver and I will always remember our unorthodox turn around Eyre Square before we headed home. I can still recall his gentle manner, kindness and keen intelligence. A true gentleman. May he rest in peace.
Saddened to hear about the passing of Shane. Sincere condolences to John and Charlotte, your dad was always so proud of you both.

It was with deep shock and heartbreak that we learned of Shane's death. Lottie only knew Mr. Bennet for one year but he was quick to grasp the measure of her and was a wonderful influence on her new found love of science and less disdain for maths !!!! He was held in very high regard in our house always as a very cool, fun and kind teacher who made learning fun, that in itself is a gift and he will be a huge loss to so many. I spoke with him regularly as a parent and found him to be very aware of the students he tought and interested in their development and happiness. Shane spoke so proudly of Charlotte and John and I send you both our heartfelt sympathies. Your Dad left an immeasurable mark on the world and on everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. We will keep him in our Hearts ox

So so sad and shocked to hear of Shanes untimely death. A friendship begun in UCD, renewed in Ballymore 26 years ago. His adventures kept us entertained from the early days in UCD. He was kind and generous and always the gentleman. A not to be forgotten smile. Rest In Peace Shane. Condolences to Charlotte, John and the extended family.
It was with great sadness I learned of the passing away of Shane. We first met in 1978 in University College Dublin where we both went to study science. We last met in the same science building over forty years later, see the photo taken by Maria O’Neill. Earlier that day, the three of us had been at the funeral of a mutual friend, Aidan Rowsome. Afterwards, we had decided to go to UCD for a trip down memory lane. I am so glad we did. I feel a great loss as Shane was a truly genuine and sincere person, liked by all. He was not only well-travelled, but he was also a very amiable and modest person and his stories would regale us all at any dinner or pub session. He will be greatly missed by me and all those who were close to him. It is with great regret that I will not be able to attend the funeral tomorrow. I offer his family, especially John and Charlotte, my deepest sympathies and sincere condolences.

I am writing on behalf of the school community to offer my sincere condolences following the sudden and unexpected death of Shane. I should like to extend our deepest sympathies to John and Charlotte as well as to members of the immediate and extended family.
We recall with affection the contribution made by Shane to the life of The High School where he is fondly remembered. His commitment to teaching was informed by an instinctive pedagogy and enriched by a wide range of interests and activities drawn from a lifetime of practical experience. We have good reason to be thankful that Shane chose to dedicate a proportion of his professional life to this institution and we remain grateful for his kind, gentle, and caring example in engaging with staff, parents, and pupils alike.
It will undoubtedly be a very difficult and painful time for family and friends as well as colleagues and pupils of Shane both now and in the immediate future. We mourn his loss to the school community. You may be assured that we will continue to keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers at The High School whilst wishing you every strength and comfort during the months and years ahead.

I was very shocked and saddened to hear of Shane's untimely passing. I worked with Shane at KT Cullen & Co. back in 1990 and then stayed in touch with him over many years through the IAH Irish Group - I have happy memories of many interesting chats with him at meetings and field trips. It was also a pleasure when I used to bump into him in Trinity when he was doing the Diploma in Education. He was a kind and thoughtful person who will be greatly missed by many. With deepest sympathy to Charlotte and John, and to all of Shane's family.

Truly, it was with shock and sadness that I learned of Shane's untimely pssing. He was a great friend, colleague and participant in the hydrogeological community in Ireland, always a gentleman, regaling us with his many tales on field trips and gatherings and at work. He was always ready to discuss the problems at hand - and usually with a unique and characteristic insight. He is fondly remembered and will be greatly missed. Sincere condolences to Charlotte and John.

I'm shocked an saddened to hear of Shane's passing. I will remember him warmly as colleague, as a boss, and above all a mentor who was always open to share and pass on his knowledge and experience as a meticulous geoscientist, but equally importantly as a kind hearted gentleman who could spread laughter and good humour. My deepest sympathies to Charlotte and John.

Shane was a true gentleman and a wonderful teacher. I met him early in my hydrogeological career where he kindly offered guidance and encouragement and our paths crossed frequently through work after that. John and Charlotte - my sincere condolences. Shane will be very much missed by those of us that worked and had great fun with Shane back in the KT Cullen days.
My sincere condolences to John and Charlotte. Your father was always so proud of you. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Sincere condolences to Shane's family. I worked alongside Shane on a GSI project during our undergrad years at UCD. He was a kind and patient person and I remember our lunchtime chats at Glencree well. His motorbike was a source of wonder to many of us back in those days! RIP Shane.
Please accept our most sincere condolences. Our daughter Louisa was fortunate to be a very recent student of Mr Bennet’s at Headfort. We have been regaled for the last year with stories from his classroom and his interesting life. Clearly he embodied excellence in an educator - engaging and inspiring but most of all offering students a different perspective on life - a lifelong gift for which we will be eternally grateful. May you gain comfort in the knowledge that he had such a positive impact on so many.

Shane was a friend, a boss I admired thanks to his close understanding and kindness. He gave me chances to develop and explore hydrology consultancy, and more, inspired me to entrepreneurship. I joined him in Ballymore Eustace as well as Patrick, Paul, Emma, Nathan, Richard, Freddy, Sonia and Angus… Shane’s Crew, I appreciated so much... Thanks Shane. I am deeply shocked and won’t forget your figure. Dear John and Charlotte, whom I remember happy early childhood in Ballymore, I send you my deep condolences from France. I’ll miss you Shane.
