Shocked and saddened to hear the terrible news, a fellow Cavan man who did so much for Navan. Bumped into him on the odd occassion about the town and I always came away the better for it. One of life's gents.

I knew Shane through my brother Phil and my late father Andy and if it wasn't for Shane two years ago after our house fire we would have been homeless. Shane contributed to a meeting of councillors from all over Ireland in Athlone in November. He was friendly, helpful and professional. It is a great shock to those of us from many parts of Ireland who met him on that day to hear of his tragic death. We will all be saying a prayer for Shande and his beloved wife, children, family circle, and work colleagues in Meath County Council at this very sad time.
