What a great loss to the Shane's family and friends and Ireland. I went on one of his walks around the cemetery last time I was home in Ireland. It was terrific because of Shane.
I am so so sad to hear of Shane's passing. I first met Shane 6 years ago when I arranged to bring a Transitioon Year group of students from my school to do a tour of the cemetery. This was before the visitors centre etc. since I and my students have visited annually. I will always remember how Shane brought the tour to life for those students and me!! Such a wonderful warm, funny and intelligent man. I am honoured to have met him and he has left a lasting impression. Rest in peace Shane.
I met Shane once on a tour of the cemetery and his love of his subject was palpable. Myself and my friend, the late Eithne Murphy RIP, enjoyed our tour and we watched and listened to him whenever he was on radio or television. Some people stay forever in your memory and Shane was one such person. May he rest in peace.

I worked with Shane at Glasnevin summer 2010 and there are few people you come across in life who can truly leave a lasting mark-Shane did on mine. He lived his life for his passion, which is something to aspire to, and anyone who knew him or learned from him was left the better for it. I am grateful to have known him.

My condolences to his family. He lives on in the lives he's touched.
Such sad news such a lovely man , R.I.P Shane

So very sorry for your loss, new his wonderful Dad well and worked with Shane in the James Joyce Centre. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
So sorry to hear about Shane's death , I first met Shane on walking tours of Dublin. I never knew there were so many statues in O ' Connell st! Then I was lucky to bring a class to a guided tour of Shane's beloved Glasnevin. I can't believe Shane will not be around for 2016 celebrations. From a proud Dub who was educated by Shane. Rest in peace!
Sending love and prayers to Shane's daughter and his family. I worked with Shane for a number of years on the Glasnevin Museum and he became a friend. One of my favourite times was our weekly meetings at the RHA listening to Shane and Dr Peter Harbison debate who they wanted to include in the Museums exhibition. They were from different viewpoints but debated like Gentlemen and I found it inspiring and learned a lot from them. When I was expecting my 1st baby he spoke of his love for his daughter & being a dad and suggested some interesting names! He'll be enormously missed by so many, god rest his soul.
So saddened to hear of the sudden death of Shane. My prayers and condolences to his mother Roseleen and to all the family. You are all in my thoughts at this sad time.
A true legend that will leave behind an unfillable void rest in peace with all you heroes !!!
"One thing stirs me when look back on my youthful days; it is the fact that so many people gave me something or were something to me without knowing it. Such people had a decisive influence on me.They entered my life and became powers with............in me. Much that I should not otherwise have felt so clearly or done so effectively was felt and done because I stood under the sway of these people. Hence I always think that we all live spiritually by what others have given us in the significant hours of our life....

If we had before us those who have been a blessing to us, and could tell them how it came about, they would be amazed to learn what passed over from their lives to ours."
Always in our thoughts, forever in our dreams and enshrined in our hearts. Shane may you rest in Peace.

I'm very sad to hear of Shane's death. He and I worked together for several years in the Joyce Centre in the late 90s. I remember many long Sunday afternoons manning the bookshop there with him when there were only one or two customers in the whole day, and passing the time in conversation about life, the universe and everything. Shane had a really interesting life story. Along with the late Ken Monaghan, Shane's roguish presence defines those years in my memory, and whenever I ran into him subsequently on visits home I was always so glad to see him. The last time I talked to him was about three years ago. I live in Singapore now and I'm sorry I won't be in Dublin to pay my respects in person.
It was a real pleasure to have known Shane when he was a young lad - and to have witnessed his journey to become a master of his craft. Such an engaging, passionate and knowledge man. He will be sorely missed.

our heartfelt sympathies to Morgane, Rosaleen, Órla, Melíosa, Damien and all the family
