Shane O'Brien

Dear Mr and Mrs. O’Brien,

My sincere condolences to everyone in your family for Shane’s untimely passing.

I knew Shane since 2015. The last time I was with him was week of 2/21/2020 for a roadtrip around Denmark. I remember him planning a flower delivery the following day because it was his mom’s bday. He was always proud to share stories about his parents and his childhood. The last time I spoke with him was Oct 2020. He just came back to Copenhagen from Ireland and was sharing how sad he was for leaving DJ again. He was so excited and scared of his new role but I reminded him to be proud because his dream came true. He’s so passionate about his job and always said the refugees come first.

I heard of his passing last 1/26/2021. My heart is grieving from this tragic news. My time with him was limited but impactful. He was beautiful, smart, funny and generous. He taught me many things, made me see the world from a different perspective and left me wonderful memories that I will cherish forever. My prayers go out to the both of you and everyone in his family. I never met any of you in person but Shane’s stories made me feel like I’ve known you for a long time. Shane is always in my thoughts and prayers. Love and miss him dearly. X

I last I saw Shane was at my apt. in Tel Aviv, we spoke of the Derry Girls and a place he was buying or had just bought in Ireland. He was bright, talented in so many areas, but didnt take himself too seriously; funny, charismatic yet an easy going presence. What a fine, fine spirit. He will be sorely missed and remain much loved.
