I met Shay playing boules in Bayside. He being an Elvis fan I was telling him about a few of us who played and sang in a Nursing home once a month and of course he wanted to join us which happened. Twice he came with us and did an Elvis turn with collar up and shaking all over. He was looking forward to the next one as he said he had worked out a Molly Malone turn. Unfortunately for the last 3 months he wasn't well enough and very disappointed. And so were we. When Shay made us a foursome we needed a name. Our ages added up to 294 years, Shay the oldest, so a FabFour feel to it was only right: The Creakles.

I had the pleasure of playing soccer with Shay in the United Churches League (he was coming towards the end of his impressive soccer playing) he was our midfield maestro. He would loiter in midfield a la Johhy Giles calling for every ball ' leave it, Shay's ball'. Fond memories of happy days.

To Tony and extended family so sorry to hear of Shays passing he did so much for all our children they have great memories of summer sports day and looking out the window for GrangemoreSanta and we have great memories of our days in the variety group we used to have some Laughs. All the men had too. Left feet including shay. Rest in peace

He was an absolute warrior for Grangemore and for the wider Donaghmede area and always worked and strived for the areas betterment. It was my privilege to know him and work with him over the years. Shay was a gentleman, always with a smile and ready for a chat. A true committed volunteer encouraging community spirit in Grangemore. He will always be remembered for giving the young people activities to look forward to and a fantastic childhood growing up. He was the organiser of all the fun in the summer including Grangemore Festivals, Sports Days, Football Tournaments, Community Games, Summer Projects, Barn Dances, Outings including Clara Lara and visiting every house as Santa with the Christmas Presents. He was one of the driving forces of our community, he was at the heart of everything bringing us all together, working tirelessly for Grangemore. He helped create wonderful cherished memories for the children and for us all. He was also involved in keeping the area looking clean and cutting those grass verges. We will dearly miss you Shay, now that you've gone to your heavenly home.
For family left behind, you're in our prayers and may God embrace and comfort you all and help ease the immense loss you bear.

Organised the children's sports every year, Santa Claus, running the residents association and ensuring the estate was always clean and enjoying his few pints on a Sunday night in Trinity Sports and Leisure. Of all my favourite memories of grangemore, Shay Coyne was involved in every one, sports days , community game, grangemore festival .
