Sheila was a fantastic aunt to me, full of warmth and laughter. She cared for all of us in the extended family each summer, taking us under her wing, showing us the best of Galway city, Inis Meáin and beyond. She had truly lived and she educated us at an insular time in Ireland about the wider world. Stories of her travels in Malawi, Somalia and Sweden fired our imaginations, there was never a dull moment in the Guerin household. I thank her and Pat for their care and encouragement over the years.

I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Sheila Guerin who was like a mother to me for over forty years. Distance prevents me from being there at her funeral, but my thoughts and prayers are firmly with you all.

I had the luck to get to know Sheila when she and her very young family at the time came to my country to support its development. She and her husband, Patrick Guerin opened their hearts and home to me at a time when I needed it most, and their kindness changed the course of my life. I will always remain grateful for the love, support, guidance, and encouragement Sheila gave me.

Her compassion, warmth, and generosity shaped who I am today. Sheila was truly one of the most remarkable people I have ever known, and I will forever carry her memory with deep love and respect.

May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace, and may God give strength and comfort to her beloved husband and family during this difficult time.
