Sincere sympathy to the Jones family on the passing of your dear mother. Silvija was such a lovely woman who met everyone with a smile and a kind word.

Sending love to you all at this time. I can't reflect it as a 'sad time' because I can hear her dismissing such 'nonsense' and saying that she had a fabulous long healthy life filled with adventure, learning, fun and creativity. Not many people write their first book in their eighties (What a woman!).

The great Silvija was quite simply a wonderful Lady (with a capital L) who we feel very blessed to have known and lived beside. She was so welcoming to us 11 years ago when we moved in, and she was so kind as each of our kids came along. Thankfully always declaring that she couldn't hear the noise and racket we must have been making next door!

We always enjoyed when she popped her head out the front door and would come to the hedge for the chats. Always a twinkle in her eye, and with a strong opinion, she had the best stories about the antics of her clan growing up in the cul de sac, and the wonderful sense of community here, over the many decades that the Jones' have been an institution in Willow Park. It just won't be the same here without her good self.

May she rest in peace (and continue to keep a watchful eye out on the cul de sac) xxx

She died as she lived - with grace, pragmatism, warmth and stoicism.

A role model in life and in death. I have such fond memories of her, as does my son Will, to whom she read Latvian children’s books when he was a child - translating paragraph by paragraph from Latvian to English. His favourite was about wolves in the forests of Latvia.

I first met Silvija in St Michael’s House SNS when she returned to the school as a Substitute Teacher after her retirement and again when my daughter moved into the cul de sac.
