I was deeply saddened to learn of Simon’s passing. After losing touch for a while, I found myself on the TCD campus last week and immediately thought of paying Simon a visit in Early Printed Books. It was then I learned of his recent passing.

During my time at TCD in 2018/19, I often sought Simon out during my research, drawn to his affability and calming presence. I even introduced Simon to my mother when she came to visit Dublin. Simon thoughtfully facilitated a dream we both long held: to hold a Shakespearean First Folio. He took pictures for us and with us; he shared in our joy. I will always cherish the memories of our conversations and his kind spirit. My heartfelt condolences to Simon’s family and loved ones.
Many happy years of a transport hobby with dear Simon. I thought I was the only person interested in buses until a chance meeting in College Green one summer evening in 2001. Lost contact when I departed for the UK and on return his house in Rathcoole was demolished. A kind and gentle soul who will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.

Rest in Peace
