Simon was one of the nicest, kindest, gentlest and most genuine and decent of men that I’ve ever known. I knew him from childhood. He was always upbeat, jolly and good humoured. Even into adulthood and long after I’d left Roscrea, whenever I would meet Simon he would always enquire about my own family and how I was getting on, often recalling old times. He had a deep love and affection for his family and the people of Roscrea. You always left a casual meeting with Simon with the feeling that everything was alright with the world.

So sorry to hear of Simon's death yesterday. Simon was a lovely kind gentleman who never wanted to bother anybody. It was a pleasure to nurse him in Ealga Lodge and all the more of a pleasure when he
