Sister Maria Goretti O'Neill

On behalf of the 4 O' Neill girls who were taught by Sr Goretti, (Mairead (RIP), Eithne, Catherine & Moira), we would like to offer our sincere condolences to Sr Maria Goretti O'Neill's family. Sr Goretti was a wonderful addition to St Marys secondary; her energy and enthusiasm was infectious!!! We will keep her in our thoughts and prayers. RIP

Farewell auntie Carmel. What a lovely and fitting ceremony for a person who lived according to the Prophet Micah’s words - to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God. We will all miss your presence.

So sad to hear of the passing of Sister Maria Goretti, she was everything a woman of faith should be, kind, patient, great humoured and such a gentle soul. Her tuck shop was legendary, the absolute privilege when she asked you to help out was really something of great pride, the free bar or jellies when you finished serving was also a lovely bonus, I have no doubt the best bed in heaven was waiting for her eternal rest. Deepest sympathy to all her family and the sisters of mercy who have lost such a talanted, kind and wonderful person.

We had her for typing class back in the mid 80's where we had to go on the roof of the school to get to the room, we had such great laughs with her trying to get us off the roof to go to class.

She was always busy running around doing everything she could.

She will be so fondly remembered by all who were lucky enough to have known her.

She was so kind to me especially when my father died in first year. She gave us her time and help us if we could not understand something. May she RIP.

Sincere condolences to all sister Marie Goretti family. I remember her on her little Honda zipping around the grounds slowly at st Mary’s during the late 70s and early 80s. She also thought me basketball and commerce with miss Speakman. RIP.

Deepest condolences to Sr. Maria Goretti's family and friends. It is truly a great loss and my thoughts are with you all at this time. A wonderful person, with so much given to everybody she met. I'll always remember what I learned from Sr. Maria. The biggest lesson was that not one single thing about us defines who we are, but the many things about us is what makes us uniquely ourselves. Sr. Maria will never be gone and will live on in the people she imparted her love and wisdom on. I am sure those gifts will be passed on for generations to come, as I know I will cerainly be passing these lessons onto my own children. The ceremony was truly a celebration of life.

The kindness she showed us, her incredible humour, her performance in the Christmas show with Mr o Connor and our daily chats while working in the tuck shop with her are to name just a few of memories I will treasure forever. Very sorry to hear of Sr.Maria Goretti's passing. May she rest in peace. She was one of a handful of lovely nuns and tried to help all the children as best she could but was often up against the odds herself! I had the privilege of meeting her several times long after I left school and we had some strong "heart to heart" conversations. There wasn't many but you were one of the best 💓

We have fond memories of meeting her on many occasions on our visits to St Mary’s Convent in Arklow, where they both spent many, happy years, and on visits to Wexford also. May she rest in peace.
