Only with your passing have I truly realised the void you have left in my life. You led a long, well lived one yourself filled with accomplishments that you were much too modest to broadcast. You told me once that before following your heart and joining the Dominicans, you shared with your father a ‘final’ conversation. He presented you with a gift, though it was, as you shared with me, “not the prettiest ornament”, you understood that he needed to give you something that reminded you of home. Dada remembered how you chased birds around his garden, and this Goldfinch would help you through the hardships that the next stage of your life might bring. When you chose to gift it to me some 60 years later it was to help me remember home as I moved to America. Why you thought I was worthy of it, I will never know, but you knew how much I might need it so far away.
Resamena, I never verbalized how much you meant to me. Though you possessed an extraordinary intellect, you only ever used it in a positive, caring way; guiding and influencing so many others, who were lucky like me, to share in your life. You were formidable, in the best sense of the word. You were curious, sincere, and wonderful. You used your tremendous command of both the English and Irish language to guide, cajole and positively influence those lucky enough to be part of your life.
I am sorry that I cannot join your funeral mass in person, but I will look fondly upon the Goldfinch, and think of you always.
Sympathies & condolences on the passing of Sr Alberta, RIP. Go lonraí solas na bhflaitheas uirthi!🙏

My deepest sympathies to the Sisters and community at Dominican Convent, Taylors Hill, Galway on the death of Sister Alberta. She was very special to me both as a former teacher in Taylor's and as a happy, beautiful friend. It was lovely to have her back in Galway in her latter years and her broad smile and welcoming nature added joy to the convent and to all who knew her. May she now enjoy the peace and happiness that only heaven and the Lord Jesus can give and her presence there will give joy to all who have predeceased her. Rest in peace, Alberta, and it was a privilege to have known you.

Resamena holds a special place in all of our families and each of us will have memories to share. There cannot be a house that does not have a prayer or blessing she has elegantly penned and decorated.

She was immensely proud of her family, producing a family tree entitled A Rich Inheritance. My memories go back many years when we, as children, would holiday in Galway and visit her at the convent. She was always interested in what we were doing and when she entered the room she came with a twinkling smile.

This year Linda and I will have been forty years married. Resamena came to our wedding in England and was a huge hit with the in laws. When my grandson Riley (now three) arrived she was keen to have news of him, describing him as ‘my Riley’. She never got to see him, though she will see him now of course.

I know that Resamena devoted her life to God and had a distinguished career as a teacher and scholar. But, I mostly saw her as ‘head of the family’. She was the eldest and, as such, always had a special word for those nephews and nieces who were the oldest of their siblings, of which I was one.

Resamena’s goal was to reach a hundred not out. But God had other ideas! May she rest in the peace of the Lord. May those who loved her find comfort. God bless you Resamena.

Kevin

Sister Alberta was a wonderful teacher and had a lovely quiet and gentle way about her.
May she now Rest In Peace.
For my first holy communion you gave me a cassette tape of pope John Paul II praying the rosary in Latin. It was my first introduction to latin. Our family had a wonderful celebration at your golden jubilee as a nun. Your longevity was a characteristic that set you apart. Though your body became a little older and weaker, your mind remained sharp up until the end. Your spirit was willing, but your mission here was done. I believe your prayers throughout your life, helped all the extended family and I am so grateful to have met and known you. May you be welcomed into paradise with Jesus Mary Joseph and all the great saints and may you be reunited with all your siblings, parents relatives and friends.
Go n-éirí an bóthar leat
We love you resamena

R.I.P.

Déanaim comhbhrón le clann Alberta agus leis na siúracha Doiminiceáneacha uile a bhí mar chairde agus chomhluadar aici. Bean fhlaithiúil, léannta, dhaonna le croí mór. In iothlann Dé go raibh tú. Ó Áine i Rath Chairn.
We all remember her golden jubilee. 50 years a Dominican sister. A life given to God. We partied then. I was at the little children's table, along with many of the Dalton's, Mountbellew Lallys, Castlegar Lallys, Corcoran's, maybe even some of the Delfs from across the water too.

We were all younger then. The youngest ones were debuting their party pieces and the older ones were performing their polished acts. Resamena loved it all.

And many years passed. Sisters and brothers passed to the next room, but not Resamena. She was above death, or so it seemed. Some of us assumed she would keep going forever. But not quite.

So this is for you, Resamena. May God carry you home safely. May Our Lady welcome you at the door. And may we meet again.
I'll bring the chocolate butter biscuits.
What a blessing to have the chance to get to know and visit this lovely Bride of Christ. My prayers go out to my dear Mother in law, Dominica and all her family and the Dominican sisters in Taylor’s Hill. What a beautiful soul and a strong personality. God bless. Rest In Peace. I will have lovely stories to tell my children about her especially Rosalina.
