I was very sad to learn today that dear Sr Damian died on the 15th January. She was a marvellous & inspirational piano teacher for me & many members of my family. My deepest sympathies to all her Mercy Sisters and all the Conroy family. God bless & keep her.

Deepest sympathies to the Conroy family and the Sisters of Mercy on your great loss. I have very fond memories of Sr. Damian during my time at the Mercy.
She was kind and gentle and yet had a quiet strength. She encouraged all students in her care to find their potential and imparted her great love of music, she was equally generous with her time and talent.
In the opening weeks of school after some very rocky notes on the violin; we both decided the flute would be better for me and she always accompanied me for my exams throughout the years and encouraged me.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Sister Damian taught me music. After a start with a severe piano teacher, taking up the violin with Sister Damian made the music lesson a treat I looked forward to. She drew the notes out of me, melodiously, giving me a belief in the sounds I could make with an instrument. On reading her death it felt for a moment that the music had stopped. But no, let the notes play more beautifully than ever, this time to a new tempo.

Sr Damian went to primary school with my dad and whenever we met she would delight in reminiscing about those happy, mischievous school days — often laughing as she recalled the day my dad, all in good fun, threw her into some bushes! Those stories were shared with such warmth and joy, a reflection of the generous spirit she carried throughout her life.
