Sr. Dorothea Foley

I am heartbroken to hear of Sister's death. She hired me to teach music at St. John's when I was still in college. When I graduated with my degree and teaching credential, she hired me to teach the first grade with Sister Paul. I learned more from the sisters about teaching and working with children from the two of them that I learned in 6 years of college. Sister was not only my principal. She was a dear and stalwart friend that saw me through some of the worst times of my life. She brought me communion after I had surgery. When my son was injured, she made the trip from Carmichael to San Jose once a week to see him. She was a witness for my annulment. I owe her more than gratitude. I had hoped to see her at least once more in this world, but I will look forward to the day that I see her again in heaven. Rest in peace, Sister. I carry you and all you taught me in my heart. Say hello to Sister Paul and light a star for me.

I first met Sister Dorothea when she gave me the job of gardener at the Convent and later at her own home in St. Brendan’s Park, where we worked closely together for several years.

Sister Dorothea was a much loved person here in Carmichael at St. John the Evangelist Parish and School. She was a great support to me when I was principal at the school and most especially when my dear dad died. She was a gentle and strong soul. Sending prayers to her loving family… you all have a most special Angel watching over you all now.
