I have only now in September heard the sad news of Miriam's death. I offer my very belated and deepest sympathy to the FMSA family and her family and very many friends. I have wonderful memories of having had the privilege of working for many months with her and practically all of her Sisters, in Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and Ireland, forty-five years ago. What an amazing person and amazing missionary and doctor. I pray for her and for all who mourn her--and I believe she is praying with us and for us.
I met Sr Miriam at Kariobangi, Kenya. Her stories recounted the years of her service to the vulnerable in both Kenya and Uganda. She gave me a simple gift, which I still cherish with love. It was a product of a community-based project that supported vulnerable women she used to work with.

But what I remember most about her is the faith and spiritual guidance in the catholic charismatic renewal ministries.May Sr Miriam rest well in peace,Amen.
I was honoured and privileged to have met Sr Miriam during my time as a T.D. We had kept in touch and I knew she was having treatment recently in Dublin but hadn’t known she had passed away.
Difficult to find the words - humble, unassuming, a doer. I loved her story of when she entered the order, thought one road ahead of her and then told she was to be a doctor. A role she filled superbly.
And then when a much deserved retirement was on the horizon she took on another challenging role in Nairobi.
I am so glad to have met her and been her in her company.
May Sr Miriam rest in peace.
We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sr. Miriam Duggan. We had the privilege of working with her in Nairobi, where we learnt so much from her passion, her commitment to the poor, and her strong leadership. She was a true role model to so many of us in Kenya who have been guided and inspired by the example of missionaries. Her legacy of service and compassion will live on in the countless lives she touched.

Our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and her fellow Sisters in the Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa.

Sr Miriam was such an inspirational person.

Her unselfish lifelong dedication to others was amazing to witness.

She always made us feel very welcome when we visited her and her team in Kenya.

I'm sure she has a well deserved front seat in heaven already - although she will probably have given it to somebody else.

may she Rest in Peace.
Fare thee well Sr. Duggan Miriam
I first saw you at the adoration chapel Kamwokya parish, Kampala Uganda.
We remember your works of charity, the primary school- Miriam Duggan primary school in Kamwokya with first class services then, for the underprivileged. We used to passby and admire, then Free health services, youth programmes ...
May the good Lord whom you visited frequently in the chapel allow you a place in heaven to be among the saints. Remember me once you cross over.
RIP.
"Greetings from Nairobi where I still am on mission, but love the work
among God's poor." I got this message from Sr Miriam Duggan in late 2021. By then in her 80s, she was continuing her work among the poorest of God's people. She went on to say that her brother had died earlier that year but "but it was a consolation to be able to be present at the funeral on zoom". She enclosed the newsletter from the project she was working on - "in case you are interested".

Sr Miriam stood in the great tradition of Irish missionaries who saw and recognised God's greatness in every person - especially those the world considers as among the least. Her example reminds us all to try and do more, and better, for others.

And at a time when the Catholic Church's contribution to healthcare is denied, and its role in the fight against HIV decried (often by people far less active in the field), Sr Miriam is a reminder of the true state of affairs. She led the fight against AIDS in Uganda in ways that were true to her Christian principles, and were practical and effective.

She has entered her new life and is buried on the Feast of her Order's original founder, St Clare of Assisi, whom she no doubt resembled in her total self-giving and commitment.

And as one who gave so much of herself during her lifetime she will now, no doubt, like St Therese of Lisieux, spend her heaven 'doing good on earth'. Suaimhneas síoraí dá hanam. Sincere condolences to her Sisters in FMSA, her family and friends.
Sincere sympathy to the Duggan family on the sad passing of Sr Miriam.May her gentle soul rest in peace.
Deepest sympathy to all who loved Sr. Miriam and who now mourn her passing. Leaba i measc na naomh go raibh aici.
Aine Grainne Sean Joe & Margaret . We are so sorry for your loss of your beautiful Marie . May she rest in peace.
Lots of love Úna & family xx
Sincere condolences to the Duggan family. May she rest well.
You were indeed one of God's greatest generals.

I bear testimony to your great work in the health and education sectors within the Kamwokya Parish and neighbourhood.

Through you, God healed millions of bodies and souls.

Thank you for heeding to his call upon your life, and for remaining faithful to the end.

Now the crown of victory has been bestowed upon you.

Enjoy yourself in glory.

She played a pivotal role in my own journey, supporting me in my studies and shaping me into the person I am today. Sincere condolences to all the Duggan family. Thinking of you all.
I thank the Lord for having allowed my to meet such a lovely person who taught me to believe in myself and to love others. Her feet were always fast - off to do God's will and make another life better. She was unafraid, honest, full of life and joy. As we worked together in the early days of Youth Alive Uganda, she always said "when I die, I shall have plenty of time to sleep but now it's time to work- off we go!" And off we went. I am sure the Lord welcomed you with a " Well done good and faithful servant!" kind of welcome.
To the family and the Sisters of Saint Francis, may the Lord comfort and keep you strong. May the memory of who she was keep you going amid the cloudy times.
Dr. Miriam, you will be always in my heart.

Sympathies to both her Irish family and her very large African family of Sisters, young people and community. Everyone who met her even briefly knew they were in the presence of someone extroadinary.

It is with profound shock and deep sympathy that I learn of the sad passing of Sr Dr Miriam Duggan. I met her when I worked in Nsambya hospital as a young doctor prior to my stepping into her large shoes as a Director of the same hospital much later on.
Sr Dr Miriam Duggan had it all; empathy, leadership, exceptional professional skill and deep love for prayer. She saved many lives in Nsambya and inspired and mentored many. She was a Jacqueline of all trades that was hardly intimidated by anything. She served with commitment and love. Our condolences to the FMSA community and her immediate family. We commend her soul to the Merciful Lord.
May the Lord's face shine upon you and grant your soul eternal peace. Thank you for accepting the call to come to Africa. Your love for the Lord remains live in our hearts. RIP Servant of God!

Sr. Dr. Miriam Dugan, your Legacy will live for ever. Uganda and Africa will remember you for ever.

The Remarkable Work of Dr. Miriam Duggan in Uganda as a Medical Missionary and Lifesaver, an Educator and Mentor! This was beyond clinical care, you devoted yourself to training midwives and doctors. Eventually you passd on that leadership to those you Mentored. Thank you.

Another kegecy you left for us in Uganda was the wonderful work against HIV/AIDS. You founded the Pioneer and Behavior‑Change Advocate.

As the HIV/AIDS crisis escalated in the late 1980s, you organized local clinics and mobile home-based care programs to support those affected and the many orphans left vulnerable, you were there for everyone!

In LEADERSHIP:
You achieved so many Awards in health care with so much humility!

Let's celebrate the Life of our dear, Sr. Dr. Miriam Duggan. We will miss you, we Love ❤️ you and we Pray 🙏 for you. We meet again. RIP our dear Dr. Mriam.
