Sincere sympathy to Sr Francesca's family and the Sisters of Mercy on the sad passing of a truly wonderful person. I worked with her briefly in Summerhill NS and have very fond memories of my time there. There was a great atmosphere of joy, laughter and learning fostered by Sr Francesca and her staff.

I was privledged to have worked with Sr. Francesca in Summerhill Primary School. She was an inspiring, caring Principal to the staff, pupils, parents & to the whole school Community in Summerhill. I will always remember her kindness & cheerfulness. So many treasured memories of our long friendship both in school & outside school. Our school tours to Dáil Éireann were very special outings!

We enjoyed many great conversations embellished by her great good humour and ready wit. A great teacher, a lovely lady, still fondly remembered and I want to be associated and add to all these lovely condolence messages. She taught me in second class in the (old) St Pauls School.
I retold a story only lately to someone. In her class one day, many church bells began ringing including the bell on the convent. Sister Francesca had us standing up all praying as if our lives depended upon it. She told us 'today' marked the end of what she termed the Ecumenical Council and apparently she heralded great changes were on the way. Year would have been 1965. It was the end of Vatican II.

She taught me in St. Peter's national school many years ago and our paths crossed again when my daughter attended Summerhill NS and I was on the Board of Management. She never seemed any older to me and still had the attentive ear, always willing to listen to all sides of a debate. She gave her life to generations of Athlone school children and will be remembered fondly by all. May she now rest in eternal peace 🙏

The education community in the greater Athlone area has lost a great stalwart. One of Sr. Francesca’s hallmarks was her cheerful demeanour and her determination to create a happy learning environment for both pupils and colleagues. We in Féile Ceoil na Scoileanna, Áth Luain appreciate the longevity of her association with us and her faithful support and encouragement, even in retirement. We offer our deepest sympathy to her family and to the Mercy Sisters, Western Province on their great loss.

My deepest sympathy to Sr. Francesca’s family and to the Mercy Sisters, Western Province, on her recent sad passing. I was fortunate to make her acquaintance in the early 1980’s and since then I have appreciated her kindness, her talent as a teacher, school leader and mentor of colleagues. I cherished her cheerful welcome and her willingness to take on whatever new teaching initiatives came her way. One of her greatest gifts was evident in her creation of a happy, pleasant and purposeful school environment for both pupils and staff members. She will be missed by many.
