My condolences to the family and friends of Sr Irene. She taught me in 2nd class at the Bower National School. She was so kind and warm hearted with a lovely smile. She is a teacher who really stands out in my memory as a wonderful person. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

A life lived in the service of others .
I met Irene as a teacher straight out of college in 1982 when I took up my first teaching position in Scoil Áine Naofa . She was kind, compassionate , supportive & above all great fun to be around. She touched the lives of many a student & adult alike .
May I extend my Deepest condolences to the LSU community , the extended Keane family but above all to Sr Rosemary her best friend . They will all miss her mischievous presence & singing in their lives . May she rest in peace .

It is with much sadness that I learned of the passing of Sr. Irene. Deepest sympathy to her family and to the L.S.U. community. It was while I was teaching in Scoil Áine that I first met her, and she became a dear friend. Indeed, since she left Lucan, I have asked Sr. Rosemarie many a time how she was keeping. Some people come into our lives because we need their compassion and kindness. Sr Irene was my teacher in primary school in Scoil Aine Lucan, she was one of the first people in my life that encouraged me to do my Art, she beleived in me and was the kindest and most caring person i had ever known, she showed compassion even when i didnt deserve it, she was everything a teacher should be and im sad she is gone but glad she is at peace and reunited with loved ones. Thank you for caring for me all those years ago. Goodnight and Godbless till we meet again.

She taught me in the Bower National School for a year, as an 11 year old in the old schoolhouse in St.Mary's Square, Athlone, while a new school was being built. Madame Cyril, as she was called then was a lovely, friendly, caring, youthful nun who jouned in our games during break time and was always nice to us. I have always remembered her with fondness. RIP Sr Irene... condolences to your family & friends

Sr. Irene is a name still spoken in this family, many years after she left Lucan. Teacher to 3 out of 4 of us, worked with my Father in St. Patricks Parish for years, and most years for her pilgrimage to Knock my Mother would see Sr. Irene and have a catch up over a cup of tea. I was delighted to run into her in Knock last August, and she remembered me as a former pupil even though more years had passed than I'd care to remember. I introduced my (then 5 year old) son to her that day and he gave her many hugs, he took to her immediately! Myself, my sister and my Mother were only looking at old staff photos in Scoil Aine when we went to vote recently and talked about her fondly. My Mother was especially sad to hear of her passing and said an extra rosary last night. Sr. Irene will be long remembered in this family.
