My condolences to Sr Irene's sister Mary as well as her extended family and and friends in Ireland as well as the St Joseph of Cluny community in Ireland, New Zealand, Fiji and the Cook Islands.
I've been presenting a weekly Irish radio show 'Ireland Calling' here in New Zealand since 1990 and Sr Irene along with other members of the St Joseph of Cluny sisters have been regular listeners to the show which was their link back to Ireland for many years. Her former colleague Sr Angela Doheny originally from Tipperary once told me that the biggest expense they had for years was for batteries for the transistors the sisters had - they fell asleep listening to the show!
The Sisters of St Joseph of Cluny contributed so much to pre-school education of children in all the communities they worked in.
It was always lovely to meet the sisters on many occasions during the year and especially the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in Auckland. May Sr Irene and all her former fellow sisters from Ireland who contributed so much to New Zealand society for many years Rest in Eternal Peace.
