Sr. Kathleen Owens

Every year when we arrived in Ireland, Kathleen was at the airport to meet us. She would bring us home to Kenagh for what was to be a summer filled with outings and the best of what Ireland had to offer. Whether it was a day in Salt hill, Rosses Point, Lough Key forest park, the aran islands or a day in Dublin, Kathleen was only too happy to show us around.
When we were not visiting some place, she gave generously of her talents, teaching me piano, helping me with school work. Kathleen’s kindness and hospitality had no limits. On one occasion when I was leaving Ireland, my flight was delayed by 18 hours. Rather than leave me at the airport, Kathleen bought tickets for us to see the Bolshoi Ballet in Dublin that evening..
I will never forget all the great things that Kathleen did for us. She is a reminder that all great things eventually come to an end.

I have the fondest memories of being a pupil at the Convent in Lanesboro', where Sr Kathleen taught me 'cello and guided my piano practice, as well as being an inspirational teacher and principal of the school.

She was an inspiration to those who attended the Brushstrokes group she founded, including my late aunt, Peggy Crehan, and my mother, Noreen Gibbons. My mother has asked me to pass on her deepest sympathy to Sr Kathleen's family and the community of Sisters of Mercy in the Western Province.

Dear Miranda, William and family

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Sr. Kathleen. Her warmth, kindness, and may I add, her exceptional culinary talents touched the lives of so many over the years. My family and I enjoyed many’s a banquet created by Kathleen and Auntie Bridie at their home in Keenagh, all yummy produce was always from their beautiful garden.

She had a unique way of bringing people together through her cooking, creating not just meals, but cherished memories.

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May her legacy of love and joy continue to inspire us all.
