I got to know Sr Mairead when I was doing my nurse training in Cork and she was such a help and support at that time and since then we have kept up the contact and while we did not meet up regularly, when we did have contact she was always kind and caring and took the time to really listen. We only spoke 2 weeks ago following Sr Marion O Mahony death and I was saddened to hear of her passing from Fr John Fitzgerald during 8.30 mass on line from Western Road Cork on Sunday.

It is with deep sadness that I write on the loss of a very dear kind caring loving friend Mairead. We became friends when she came to live in Templeogue. We shared our journey of life’s up’s and downs. We understood one another. We had great laughter together. We both had a great love of her home county of Cork. On her trips from Ballybay to Cork she often dropped in for a cup of tea, no airs or graces, just a mug of Barry’s tea.We went to the 8 am Mass in the White Fathers and were spiritually nourished by their words of wisdom.
She opened a door of love and kindness and introduced me to the Chevalier family, a group that I joined online. I have been enriched by her loving and kind friends especially Fr. Patsy.
My deepest sympathy to Mairead’s family, her sisters in community in Ireland and abroad, and especially Sr.Kathleen. I feel that Mairead will always be with me on the rest of my life’s journey, her spirit will always be in my heart. I am really grateful for having a friend as special as Mairead. I believe that she is now in that immense love of God, that was awaiting her. Maeve Murphy Templeogue.

Its hard to believe that our dear Sr Mairead died so suddenly - she seemed to be invincible! She was the glue who held everyone together wherever she was in the world. It is obvious from all the condolences how widely Mairead was known and loved.

Mairead and I worked together in South Africa especially in the HIV/Aids ministry. I was always in awe of the energy of Mairead and can picture her in the big bakkie (pick up truck) with her cap on and carrying a huge load - always with a smile and a chuckle. It could be food, trees, fencing materials, sewing machines, clothes, materials or people.

Mairead's heart was with the people of Nzhelele in Venda...she never stopped asking about them and caring for them in whatever way she could. She was always checking in with those of us in South Africa.

It was a big sacrifice for Mairead when she was asked to return to Ireland to care for the elderly sisters in Ballybay. As is obvious from all who knew her she gave herself totally to caring about the Sisters. She really loved them and they loved her. Mairead had a way of making you feel special - everyone, everywhere - she was so kind and generous.

We already miss Mairead and we pray for her community of Ballybay - all her friends and family supporting the sisters at this time - especially Sr Kathleen who will miss her dearly. We are also praying for Fr Denis, her sister-in-law and nephew and nieces in County Cork. May Mairead now rest in peace.
Sincere sympathy to Fr Denis and the entire Kelleher family, Sr Kathleen, Sr Marife and all of The Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Fr Patsy, Fr Joe and all of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart and all of Sr Mairead's close friends, I can't even begin to imagine the heartbreak you must feel from this devastating news.

I met Sr Mairead when she moved to Templeogue from Nzhelele, very quickly she became one of my favourite people. She was a loyal friend, kind, caring and always put everyone's else's needs first, nothing was too much trouble. She had a huge heart, and everyone who knew her loved her. I was always welcomed with a smile and open arms. She made time for everyone and no matter how busy she was, there was always time for coffee and a chat, it was a pleasure to spend time with her, time I really looked forward to.

Sr Mairead it was a privilege to know you and an honour to call you my friend, you will always be remembered and will forever be missed. This world will never be the same without you.
Farewell my friend 💔
