Sr. Mairead Ryan

I studied at Westhill College of Education 1977-1979 in Birmingham, West Midlands
along with my good friend, Mairead.
She was an amazing woman and children at her placements often said "You're so good you could be a nun" How right they were!
We had lots of discussions and laughs and prayed together even though I'm a Buddhist. I visited her at the Convent in Tipperary and always sent her a Christmas card.
I'm sending you my prayers for your peace and happiness.

I remember her enthusiasm and encouragement when we were involved with the Cashel and Emily Youth Service back in the late 1970/1980s. Mairead was a trail blazer in her years in the youth services. Never sparing herself and touched the lives of so many young people across the diocese. Now that her journey has ended may she rest in Peace and find comfort with her family and friends who are gone before her in the loving arms of God whom she served all those years. In 1988 Mairead secured funding for Cashel and Emly youth services as part of the National Youth Federation to create a professional youth work and services team in the region, I was a member of that first team and worked with colleagues to grow a youth service, Mairead was the manager and leader and totally committed to quality and innovation and giving things a go on behalf of young people. Her contribution to youth and community work was immense. May Mairead rest in peace .
