Just heard of the passing of Sr.Columba of the Mercy Sisters
,Portlaw.She was a great teacher of Maths and History.An intelligent woman and also a fair teacher to us all in Portlaw.I was in 2nd year in 1969 and in June of that year the Secondry School closed.She was sent to the Mercy Convent,Carrick on Suir.where she continued her teaching career until her retirement.A life well lived.RIP Sr. Columba-Hackett.Condolences to her family and the Sisters of Mercy.

The Light of Heaven to you Columba. May you rest peacefully in your Leaba i measc na naomh. Thanks for the many beautiful memories you have left me. it was a blessing for me to have travelled with you. You will be missed.

Rest in peace sister Margaret one of the good ones

The death of Sr Margaret (Columba) is an immediate reminder of the great presence of the Mercy Sisters in Portlaw. They were a special blessing to us all. When the Convent closed, Margaret remained on and lived in Brown Street at first. The Sisters hadn't gone while Margaret was around! They are missed. Margaret is missed. May she rest in peace.

My first encounter with Sr. Columba was at the tender age of 4. I can still remember her vividly, she was a novice and dressed differently to the other nuns.
My second memory was in secondary school where all pupils were the same to her. She very easy going and no favourites.
You will live long in the memory of many. Rest in peace St. Margaret, you were special.

Sr Columba as we fondly remember her , was held in high esteem by all who were fortunate enough to have been educated by her. May she rest in peace.

Condolences to the Hackett family on Sr. Margaret's passing. I rember her as Sr. Columba. She taught Maths to us 78 and 79 in Scoil Mhuire, Greenhill. Easy going nature. I remember her with fondness and met her about 4 years ago at Mass in Portlaw. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

So sad to hear that Sr. Margaret had passed. She was a beautiful person, who never judged anyone. I had the pleasure of caring for Sr. Margaret for a time and I have great memories. A very humble woman. May you rest in peace Sr. Margaret.

Sincere condolences to the Mercy Sisters and Sr Columba s family and friends . She was so nice to us all when teaching in Portlaw you were sure to have a laugh with her , even living in portlaw later on she was would always stop for a chat for a catch up . May her gentle soul rest in peace 🙏🏻

So sorry to hear of the passing of Sr. Margaret, sympathy to Monica,Patricia,Nan and her Mercy Community in Carrick On Suir. We always had a chat on the Sundays I called to the Convent. Rest in Peace Sr. Margaret- a life well lived.
