My sincere and deep condolences to her relatives, her Ursuline Community, especially Sr Mary McDaid and her many friends on the death of Sr Mary, ie dear "Mother Alphonsus".

She has left an indelible mark on all of us who came in contact with her. Her warmth, care, enduring friendship and beautiful smile will not be forgotten.

Happy memories of her teaching Science and Religion in St Angela's College in the 1960s.

My husband Terry, as well as my family and the Whelan family wish her eternal peace-so richly deserved after a life well and truly lived.

I have very fond memories of Sr.Mary Hourigan ( affectionately known as “Alphie “ ) from when I attended the Ursuline Convent , Blackrock as a boarder 1967 to 1972 . She was very kind , a lady to her fingertips and was also very far ahead of her time , teaching Physics to myself and only 3 others for our Leaving Cert.
She had a warm and gentle demeanour and the most beautiful smile , we all loved her .
My heartfelt sympathy to all the family , I am so sorry to hear that this special lady has passed .

Sr. Mary H was our founder and first Leader. For many years she hosted us once a month, where we got a warm welcome from the Community in Blackrock. She lead us all with poise Dignity and a great sense of humour. We felt special in her company and she listened to our troubles and was always there for us with a kind word and encouragement.
We are the richer for the time we shared with her. We will carry our special memories of the time we spent in her company and feel so privileged to have had her in our lives.
