Sr Pius was my teacher in my 1st year in the Convent of Mercy, Cobh. Such a lovely kind lady. I remember her very well.

As a young 14 year old I worked in the convent, and Sr Mary would answer every question i ever asked, showing me old things in the convent and encouraging me to chase my dream of Australia. She was so soft and quiet, we’d have a great little chat and laugh together. God rest you Sr Mary and thank you for the kindness you showed me when i needed it most x love Martina x

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Sr. Mary Lyons. Condolences to her family and the Sisters of Mercy Community on your sad loss. She was a gentle kind and saintly soul. I recall her excellent talk in Charleville many years ago on the history and the future of the Mercy Order and later her contribution while on a tour of Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin. Sr. Mary’s passing, at the great age of 94 has left a void in the hearts of all of us who knew and lived with her down the years R.I.P. I got to know her in the Training College where she unfortunately fell ill and had to spend months in hospital in Dublin. It was my pleasure to visit her during those months…she was so accepting, gracious and prayerful that she was an inspirational to me. Later when in Charleville I found Mary very welcoming, generous and kind. She had a great sense of taste and style, loved travel and going to musicals especially in Bord Gail. All the sisters who lived under her in the Novitiate are forever singing her praises. Well done Mary, good and faithful Sister of Mercy, May you now enjoy Heaven ! My sympathy to your loved ones…” grieve not that Mary is gone but pray in thanksgiving that she was…” 🤝

Sr. Mary was a beloved neighbour of mine when she resided at Mount Saint Mary's Novitiate here in Cobh, now the Benedictine Convent. I also of course knew here when I was a student in Colaiste Mhuire in Cobh.

Sr Mary was such a gentle and kind lady who was a true religious sister who touched everyone with her kindness and merciful soul.

May you enjoy the fruits of your labour's in Heaven and I thank God for knowing you.

Though no longer living in our lovely Convent home on Charleville's Main Street I recall living with Mary Lyons for many years. Mary like all of us spent our days weaving the Mercy story which is tangible far and wide. She came to Charleville as Leader from Cobh and frequently spoke at length of the beauty of Cobh. She loved adventure, culture and travel. Family and friends were very close to Mary. She was gracious, generous and supportive to all. I spent many a sunday post lunch learning from Mary's time in Holy Land and it's impact on her love for Scripture. She enthused myself to make such a trip . Advancing age with it's difficulties was not easy for her but the expertise and facilities of Nazareth Nursing Home enabled her live with peace and dignity to the great age of 94. Mary you will be no stranger to your Eternal Home, your heart was always there. May you rest in the arms of your God. Celestine
